Huntsville Hounds on Transport (HHOT DOGZ) Volume 11 Issue 1 Spring 2018 On Wednesday April 4th, GHHS introduced our latest program, Huntsville Hounds on Transport (HHOT Dogz.) We also unveiled the fantastic new transport van, graciously donated by Jerry Damson Automotive Group. The artwork for the van was designed by Fred Sayers. The first monthly transport to The Humane Rescue League, will be on May 11th. GHHS will be transporting dogs from our shelter as well as dogs from A New Leash on Life and Huntsville Animal Services. The van can hold 20+ dogs, depending on the sizes. The drivers will make the trip through the night and deliver the dogs to the rescue in the Washington, DC area the next morning. Dogs transported to the Washington DC area will be available for adoption soon after their arrival. The state of Alabama does not maintain strict spay/neuter laws and therefore, has a large homeless dog population. There are more homes awaiting pets in other, northern areas of the US. On Wednesday April 4th, GHHS introduced our latest program, Huntsville Hounds on Transport (HHOT Dogz.) We also unveiled the fantastic new transport van, graciously donated by Jerry Damson Automotive Group. The artwork for the van was designed by Fred Sayers. The first monthly transport to The Humane Rescue League, will be on May 11th. GHHS will be transporting dogs from our shelter as well as dogs from A New Leash on Life and Huntsville Animal Services. The van can hold 20+ dogs, depending on the sizes. The drivers will make the trip through the night and deliver the dogs to the rescue in the Washington, DC area the next morning. Dogs transported to the Washington DC area will be available for adoption soon after their arrival. The state of Alabama does not maintain strict spay/neuter laws and therefore, has a large homeless dog population. There are more homes awaiting pets in other, northern areas of the US.

Cook’s Pest Control sponsored an adoption event at GHHS on Saturday April, 28th complete with food trucks, vendors, and even a mobile pet groomer. The day was a huge success with many new faces in the shelter. The GHHS Thrift Store was bustling all day with all of the visitors taking advantage of the half off sale. Thanks, “Cookie”

It is hard to believe we are almost half way through 2018. The staff and board have been hard at work with several fund raising and adoption events. So far 2018 has seen 213 animals adopted. We pride ourselves on the care provided to these animals while we are entrusted with them as they wait on their second chance of a forever home. We have a great staff and volunteers that work with animals that have behavioral issues, exercise the dogs, and just love all of them. The animals are all well cared for, safe, and happy. Stop by and take a tour. The Dog Ball continues to be our largest fund raising endeavor and this this year was no exception. The 2018 Dog Ball “Rocket Dogzz”, held February 2nd, was sold out with over 800 in attendance and raised $155,000 with all the proceeds benefitting the Greater Huntsville Humane Society. The committee did a terrific job under the leadership of Mrs. Lana Ritch and are already planning for 2019. A new program started late in 2017 is the Animal Advocacy Membership. We now have over 224 members! We hope you’ll join us. Please think of us the next time you want to adopt, donate, or volunteer.

Pet Wellness Clinics
GHHS has started a Pet Wellness Clinic program in partnership with Rocket City Mobile Vet. Dr. Rene Holt will be on site at GHHS the second Saturday of each month to provide discounted veterinary services for qualifying low- income households. The first clinic was held on April 14th and the second will be on Saturday May, 12th. Services are provided for pet owners with a household income under $25,000. Services are all discounted and range from wellness checks, to vaccinations flea and tick prevention and microchipping. Proof of household income is required.
Long-Term Residents Welcome New Staff
Bo Bo is a 7 1/2 year old American Staffy/ Labrador mix. He has been at GHHS since December. Bo lived the majority of his life on a chain and was completely indiferent to humans when he arrived at GHHS. Since that time, Bo has learned that humans can be caring and loving. He has learned the joy of toys and other dogs. Bo is a wonderful, gentle animal who deserves a second chance.
Allure Allure is a beautiful 5 month old kitten who is FIV positive. Allure and her siblings were surrendered to GHHS in February. Both of her siblings have been adopted. Allure is a bit shy, but warms up quickly when rubbed. She loves other cats and it is safe for her to be in a home with other cats. This sweet girl is ready for a second chance.
Casey McCrary is joining the GHHS Thrift Store team as Thrift Store Delivery/ Clerk. Casey was a Children’s Programmer at the Huntsville Public Library. But, her love of animals brought her to
GHHS. Casey was raised in Huntsville and aside from her love of animals, she also enjoys hiking, nature, and fashion. She started her own hiking group complete with a Huntsville Hikers Facebook page. Casey is currently pursuing a degree in social services at Calhoun. Welcome Casey!
Nesha Walker- Taylor has joined the GHHS staff as an Animal Care Technician. Nesha has a passion for animals and recently graduated with a Vet Tech degree. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Nesha loves to
travel and has been to Africa, Australia, and Italy. She will soon be headed to France and Japan. Aside from her travels, Nesha loves to spend time with her French Bulldog, Casear and her American Bulldog/ Dalmation mix, Rock. Welcome Nesha!

The committee did a terrific job under the leadership of Mrs. Lana Ritch and are already planning for 2019. A new program started late in 2017 is the Animal Advocacy Membership. Bring all of your items to the GHHS Thrift Store. We are open Monday through Saturday from 9:30am until 4:30pm and will gladly take your donations until 4:00pm.

Pet Wellness Clinics
GHHS has started a Pet Wellness Clinic program in partnership with Rocket City Mobile Vet. Dr. Rene Holt will be on site at GHHS the second Saturday of each month to provide discounted veterinary services for qualifying low- income households. The first clinic was held on April 14th and the second will be on Saturday May, 12th. Services are provided for pet owners with a household income under $25,000. Services are all discounted and range from wellness checks, to vaccinations flea and tick prevention and microchipping. Proof of household income is required.
Long-Term Residents Welcome New Staff
Bo Bo is a 7 1/2 year old American Staffy/ Labrador mix. He has been at GHHS since December. Bo lived the majority of his life on a chain and was completely indiferent to humans when he arrived at GHHS. Since that time, Bo has learned that humans can be caring and loving. He has learned the joy of toys and other dogs. Bo is a wonderful, gentle animal who deserves a second chance.
Allure Allure is a beautiful 5 month old kitten who is FIV positive. Allure and her siblings were surrendered to GHHS in February. Both of her siblings have been adopted. Allure is a bit shy, but warms up quickly when rubbed. She loves other cats and it is safe for her to be in a home with other cats. This sweet girl is ready for a second chance.
Casey McCrary is joining the GHHS Thrift Store team as Thrift Store Delivery/ Clerk. Casey was a Children’s Programmer at the Huntsville Public Library. But, her love of animals brought her to
GHHS. Casey was raised in Huntsville and aside from her love of animals, she also enjoys hiking, nature, and fashion. She started her own hiking group complete with a Huntsville Hikers Facebook page. Casey is currently pursuing a degree in social services at Calhoun. Welcome Casey!
Nesha Walker- Taylor has joined the GHHS staff as an Animal Care Technician. Nesha has a passion for animals and recently graduated with a Vet Tech degree. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Nesha loves to
travel and has been to Africa, Australia, and Italy. She will soon be headed to France and Japan. Aside from her travels, Nesha loves to spend time with her French Bulldog, Casear and her American Bulldog/ Dalmation mix, Rock. Welcome Nesha!
