Welcome to all club and non-club members. Happy New Year to you all from Hunts Kart Racing Club. This is the FIRST round of the 2007 Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship and the FIRST of THREE rounds of the Winter Championship. Also please
remember as encouragement for you to attend these meetings, we are giving all racers an extra 20 points once you have signed on to race. We continually work hard to offer great value for money as we have throughout last year with at least five
practice sessions and three heats and final on race day and we shall continue for 2007, but this January race weekend is now within the Winter season and the weather and light conditions will have an impact on the amount of track time. The club asks that all competitors on both practice and race day help the fluency of both days be arriving on the dummy grid on time. The more efficient we all are the more track time you will have. Have a competitive and safe racing weekend.
The 2006 tickets for the Hunts Kart Racing Club Awards evening at Wicksteed Park Pavillion will be available for sale again this month, please see race programme for contact details. David Rice who will be dealing with all enquiries.
This is the time of year also that we would like to send out a final reminder. Firstly pit bay allocation for 2007 will be available for review and renewal for 2007 The bays are being taken quickly on the tarmac area and we have reduced the cost of the concrete pit bays for 2007.
Continuing to work with our Business Partners at Super Sport Timing ,HKRC has been in a position to improve our communication with you. Many of you will have received confirmation of race entries and even a colour up to date Championship table for your class both by email. As SuperSport Timing is continually improving our electronic communication to keep HKRC ahead of other clubs. If you are already receiving ‘automatic’ emails from the club then there is no need to do anymore. But to those of you that have not given us your email address , then we urge you to take some time over the race weekend to give the club your email address or any changes of email address to enable you to receive all the information required from HKRC and take full advantage of the UK’s most progressive kart club.
This month we are pleased to announce that our superb energetic race commentaries by Jonathan Needam will be reinstated. Our Tannoy system has been surveyed to look at improved coverage throughout the site.
The 2007 Hunts Kart Racing Club Membership packs are available for collection. Please ask in Race Control over the weekend and if you are planning on being a new member to the club, please speak to our Competition Secretary for the club Identification member card.

Last Months Race
Hunts Kart Racing Club’s 2006 Championships came to their conclusion at Kimbolton on Sunday 10 December. After a cold dry start to the day, rain showers arrived just in time for the finals.
Cadet: Brett Wykes took 2 laps to hit the front and then disappeared into the distance. Conditions led to
several drivers progressing through or dropping down the order, as karts went off the circuit in all directions!
By lap 4, Hazz Truelove and Jacob Stilp were racing 2nd and 3rd with first one then the other ahead. This
allowed Jake Dennis and Daniel Sweeney to close up and on a frantic final lap, Dennis grabbed 2nd from
Truelove, with Stilp losing out to Sweeney and Joe Byrne. William Howard was the novice winner.
Junior Rotax: Jack Goff was gifted the lead at the start, as incidents left pole man Nick Wones and Jon-
Paul Hathway from grid 3, out of it. Goff drove a champion’s race, keeping Dominic Russell a comfortable
distance behind. Jake Parker was soon into 3rd, benefiting from the first lap shake out, with Wones staging
a remarkable recovery for 4th.
Junior TKM: Tom Fitzpatrick had been in superb form winning all three heats to take pole for the final.
He was soon well ahead of Joe Porter and looked set to complete a memorable afternoon, whilst Gary
Henderson-Kierle caught the eye storming through from mid-field. As the race progressed, Porter gradually
closed in on Fitzpatrick, and a terrific scrap for 3rd developed between Henderson-Kierle, Adam Jenkins,
Ben Barker and Oliver Hodgson. Just to show you can never count your chickens, it was all change on the
last lap. Porter was rewarded for his efforts when Fitzpatrick’s kart suddenly slowed rounding Kimbolton,
leaving him 6th, behind Jenkins, Henderson-Kierle, Hodgson and Sam Blake!
Minimax/TKM Intermediate: Minimax pole Ben Palmer was looking good in the early stages, leading
from Callum Bowyer and Macauley Walsh, but midway through, a poor lap saw him back in 3rd. Josh
Blackmun had Intermediates all sewn up from the off, pulling away from Toby Newton and Thomas Kolasky.
Alistair Clarke recovered from a 1st lap incident to take 3rd off Kolasky.
TKM Extreme: Luke Caudle led from start to finish, maintaining a comfortable gap throughout. William
Reed and Steven Chisholm led the chase, with Daniel Graham on a charge from 7th. Graham was soon into
3rd and 2 laps later after a couple of attempts he passed Reed for 2nd. Graham halved the gap to Caudle,
but ran out of laps, with Joe Forsdyke taking 3rd from Reed who just managed to hang on to 4th as Paul
Garner put in a late challenge.

Rotax Max: Championship front-runners Marc Dawson and Kyle Chesterman both hit trouble early on and
dropped out. Josh Parker took the lead, but had to relinquish it to Steven Johnson. Gordon Chenery slotted
into 3rd. Matthew Barnes took the novice award.
Gearbox: In the 250 class, front-runners Ron Stamp and Matthew Duncan dropped out early on, leaving
the way clear for Shaun Hagan, who had started from the back row of the grid, to pull away from Martin
Goodliffe for the win. Wayne Harris grabbed 3rd from Andrew Williams in a last lap move. In 125, Robin
Kingham was first away with Ritchie Schmitz chasing hard and Michael Groves a little way behind. Schmitz
had a moment on the last lap, handing 2nd to Groves. Paul Lawson took the novice award.
Rotax 177: Polesitter Lee Torrie led for just one lap, but was back in 5th by the end of lap 2, with Richard
Amos in front of Dan Holland, Milan Mach and Dave Stimpson. Holland’s pace soon saw him past Amos
and on to win, with Amos surviving a late charge by Mach. Torrie recovered to 4th.

379th Bomb Group Display
2006 started as most of last year had gone on, spending many hours sitting at the computer
trawling through endless websites hoping to find more information about the 379th BG and
Kimbolton Airfield.
A couple of interesting ‘finds’ during the February meeting, increased the interest being generated
within the club and also in the marshals room. Soon plans were being made in the clubhouse for a
space to start a display of the items and the information found on the websites.
The first weekend of July saw the display appear, and although quite small at first, each passing month
more & more items have been added as the research still continues.
In October contact was made with Mr Chris Chandler, a former UK representative of the 379th Bomb
Group Association. A meeting was arranged to view the display, and Mr Chandler was able to help us
greatly in identifying many of the parts that have been recovered. He also offered to come and observe
the Remembrance Day silence with his Jeep which attracted a lot of interest in the paddock.
The work continues, and ideas are being thought up on improvements and additions for 2007. Some
time may be spent during the year on searching areas around the airfield.
If anybody can help with any information please contact:

History of Kimbolton Airfield
Kimbolton Airfield was the home of the 379th Bomb Group during WW2. The 379th Bomb Group flew B-17s and the group was signified by the letter K within a triangle on its tail. During all of its 330 bombing missions, it dropped 26,640 tons of bombs, shot down 315 enemy aircraft and lost 141 of its B-17s to enemy action.
The 379th Bomb Group was the only unit ever awarded the 8th Air Force Grand Slam, a very unique honour in recognition of its achievements. They also received two Presidential Unit Citations. The Group flew its last combat mission on April 25, 1945 and was finally deactivated on July 25, 1945.
The airfield at Kimbolton was originally a fighter base for the RAF. When it became evident Germany was not going to invade England, the RAF decided it didn’t need many inland fighter bases and was happy to lease most of them to the United States as airfields for heavy bombers. The runways and perimeter ramps were too thin to accommodate the weight of the Flying Fortresses and Liberators, so the runways were repaired and replaced to meet necessary specifications.
The Kimbolton kart circuit is laid out on one of the few existing parts of the airfield. The original circuit was laid out direct on the concrete dispersal area. Many parts of this can still be seen today around the track and paddock. If you look very carefully, inscriptions from the Americans who strengthened the airfield for the B-17s can still be seen.

History of Kimbolton Airfield
In July the new display for the 379th Bomb Group was unveiled and throughout the weekend the display attracted a lot of interest.
The display is being done as a tribute to the aircrews and personnel that were stationed here in World War 2, and information has been gathered by a couple of the marshals in their spare
time over the last 18 months.
The folder is information & articles found purely on the internet, and many many hours have been spent trying to find as much as possible about the 379th BG. Please feel free to browse through it.
As well as the articles, there are also items that have been found around the circuit and surrounding area, such as bullets, a bomb shackle and cockpit instruments. More and more things are being found and the area is likely to grow in both info and relics from the war.
If anybody can help with any information please contact: [email protected]

The Marshals Year
The 2006 season started on a cold damp January morning. This set the scene for the Winter series as January, February and March all had similar dark, cold and damp/wet meetings with the odd hint of snow. Not nice when you’re out in it all day!
The action on track started to hot up, even if the weather didn’t as April’s three days of TKM Super One produced some close racing.
It was in June that we had our first serious accident of the year. Dave Rice lost the brakes on his 125 ICC going into the first bend, clipped the inside kerb and ended up in the fence. Most of the marshals
attended in one or more roles from crowd control to helping the medics, which gave some of the newer marshals an insight as to what occurs during an accident scene. Dave suffered a back injury but is happily back on his feet and supporting the club as a committee member behind the scenes
Unfortunately the following month another accident ocured . Junior TKM driver Jordan Coulsen suffered a broken leg after his kart became airborne, and once more medics and marshals attended the scene within seconds dealing with the situation. Jordon is planning on returning to race again in the 2007 season.
August brought us the TKM Festival, 3 long days were rewarded with some good closely fought racing with over 250 entrants.
November and we marked the Remembrance Sunday with the help of some WW2 re-enactors, decent weather and we had done 32 races by 15:30!
Unfortunately, on a couple of occasions this year we have been down on numbers of marshals on track, but have always taken on the task in hand and supported the race meetings to the continued high standard. There is a core of people who come regularly and without these dedicated marshals we wouldn’t be able to race. We still need more marshals willing to help each month. If you can help with marshalling duties, please ask in Race Control. Or speak to our Chief Marshal – Pete Smith.
