The Honorable W. Gerard Asher is better known to friends and family in the Town of Huntington as “Jerry.” Although he is widely recognized throughout NY State as a Supreme Court Judge, his roots run deep in the Huntington community as an athlete, a leader, and a thoroughly engaged and proactive citizen. Jerry Asher graduated from Huntington High School in 1959, the year the present building was first opened. While a Blue Devil, he captained the football and basketball teams, played on the baseball and lacrosse teams and was President of his senior class. Following his graduation from HHS, Jerry attended Princeton University where he played football and lacrosse. After finishing Cornell Law School, he served in the U.S. Army, spending a year in Korea as a Hawk Missile Battery Commander. Jerry married his high school sweetheart in 1963, practiced law and raised a family in his hometown. Jerry worked on numerous civic, community and charitable boards including service as president of The Kiwanis Club, and multiple years as a director for the Huntington Chamber of Commerce. Included on his list of lengthy positions in public service is his 17 years on the Town of Huntington Planning Board. Over the years, Jerry Asher has stayed involved in sports as an agent for professional athletes and an ardent supporter of virtually every aspect of Huntington High School athletics. We are pleased to honor Jerry for his enduring support of Blue Devil Sports.
