My neighborhood was an odd contrast of old & new
Hungarians live frugally!

My neighborhood
More Hungarians OWN their “flats” or apartments than any country in the EU
Apartments don’t allow much privacy
They have buses, subways and trams. For $35.00 a month you have service on most routes every 10-15 minutes and you don’t have to go downtown to switch directions
But of course everyone complains about the transportation
Few Hungarians own clothes dryers
Gas cook stoves don’t have pilot lights. You must light the burners and oven each time you use them.
Hungarians must have fresh bread, vegetables, fruit and flowers.
There are relatively few canned good in the grocery stores
Whether for convenience or from habit, Hungarians seem to prefer shopping for meat and produce at vegetable stands, green grocers and large indoor fresh markets.
The homeless are allowed to sleep wherever they please.
The subway is a popular choice.
I’ll forever miss watching the tourists and not being one of them
Good bye Budapest
