Home Cooking, Café Setting, All Day Breakfast

Welcome home to the “Big Blue,” Arcata’s favorite café. You’ll fi nd a warm,

cozy atmosphere, with delicious, fresh meals, served up with the Big Blue’s own

special blend of organic house coffee. The coffee is always strong, and the food

is made from scratch using only the best ingredients.

Some of our most popular menu items are our buttermilk pancakes, thick sliced

french toast (topped with warm blueberries, organic banana slices and sprinkled

with walnuts), breakfast burrito, Karen’s famous potatoes, not to mention our

traditional or vegetarian biscuits and gravy. Lunch favorites are many, to name

a few: Jeff’s clam chowder (New England style), our ginger-garlic roast beef

sandwich, focaccia sandwich, hand cut french fries, daily soups and salads with

house made dressings. Organic carrot juice, mocha milkshakes and espresso drinks

are some of our customers’ favorite treats.

We thank our local suppliers for their high quality fresh and organic produce, coffee, espresso, honey, bread, tofu, meat and beer.

Private parties are welcome to reserve the café for early morning meetings

and parties. You will be taken care of by our professional wait staff and your

meal prepared by our skilled and food safety certifi ed cooks.

Organic • Local • SeasonalAt Folie Douce, we have a passion for great food. We feel blessed with

abundant edible treasures from Humboldt County’s farms, fi elds, forests a

surrounding waters. The menu changes weekly to celebrate what the season h

to offer at that moment. Our philosophy is to get the best ingredients availa

and prepare them with respect, creativity and passion. We have farm

delivering produce picked that morning, local foragers bringing their fres

picked mushrooms, nettles and berries, and our local oyster farmer bringing

oysters fresh from the bay. In addition to offering our local harvests, we a

support sustainable farming practices. Our seafood is from sustainable fi sher

and our meats are from naturally raised animals (free-range, no hormones,

antibiotics, no feed with crazy stuff in it). All of the produce and dairy is 100

organic. We also only use organic fl our, rice, nuts, cornmeal, etc.

Folie Douce was established in 1991 and quickly became a local favorite wits casual, bistro dining environment, featuring an open kitchen and a wood-fi r

Delicious Starts Right Here

Since 1955, McDonald’s has been proud to serve the world some of its favorite

food. Back in 1954, a man named Ray Kroc discovered a small burger restaurant

in California, and wrote the fi rst page of McDonald’s history. From that humble

start as a small barbeque restaurant, McDonald’s is proud to have become one

of the world’s leading food service retailers, with more than 32,000 restaurants

serving more than 60 million people in more than 100 countries every day.

As part of a global network of local family restaurants, McDonald’s and their

owner operators are proud to give back to the communities they serve. Through

involvement in local sports, local charities and events, or taking steps to improve

neighborhoods, giving back is an essential part of their operation.

And now, your favorite McDonald’s meal comes with complimentary WiFi. Get

A Taste of Hawaii E Komo Mai!

The Banana Hut truly represents owners Ken and Fatima’s vision of a tropi

paradise, a “bit of Hawaii,” here on the mainland. The Banana Hut began in

small trailer, became Humboldt County’s fi rst Hawaiian plate lunch restaurant fr

the kitchens at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, and has fi nally found home on 5th

in Eureka. Fatima made the sun and painted the sky that adorn the ceiling. H

wax fl owers can be seen on the walls, and art that Ken and Fatima collected o

the years adorns the walls as well. Ken learned how to attach booths to fl oo

and put the thatch up, decorating it with robotic butterfl ies. The Punkah fans

the ceiling were inspired by the Long Bar at the Raffl es Hotel in Singapore. A s

water fi sh tank is set up on the wall. The restaurant continues to “morph.”

New lunch and dinner menu items are being tested continuously, like Kalua

Fries. This is a meal in itself: regular french fries topped with Kalua pig, homema

brown gravy, two kinds of melted cheese, and sprinkled with green onions fovegetable. This appetizer is so good it should be a new food group. Other din

items include Babyback ribs with pineapple glaze, Lomi Lomi salmon, Ahi po

pork chops, Huli Huli chicken, Chicken Adobo, caramelized tofu, and peel and

garlic shrimp inspired by the North Shore shrimp trucks of Oahu.

House of Omelettes and Much More

The Chalet in Eureka was purchased by Vera Johnson March 1, 1975. T

building was originally an ice cream parlor and only seated eight people.

1981 the restaurant had expanded to nearly double its size and became kno

for its hamburgers and soft serve ice cream. Over the years, with more remodel

and hard work it has turned into the business that it is today.

The Chalet is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. They are known for hav

some of the fi nest omelettes in Humboldt County. Using only the freshest ingredie

available, the restaurant has won the Times Standard’s restaurant awards for “B

Breakfast” and “Best of the North Coast” many times over. They offer great fo

excellent service, a warm friendly atmosphere, and serve a complete breakf

and lunch menu all day.

Except for a minor repair job due to fi re damage, The Chalet in Eureka h

been open 365 days a year for the past 36 years. And while Vera is not pof the daily operation of the restaurant anymore, the business is still part of

family. Her son Bill, a retired warrant offi cer from the U.S. Marine Corps n

manages the restaurant, making sure the same dedication and service that ha

made The Chalet a local favorite since 1975 still continues today.

Located on the corner of 2nd and C Streets in historic Old Town Eureka,

Chapala is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Catering, banquetfacilities, and delivery within a one-block radius are offered.

Patrons will enjoy Chapala’s fresh salsa, homemade chips and perennial

favorites such as Sopes, Enchiladas, Tacos, Burritos and Carnitas. The ChilesRellenos are a delight not to be missed. Generous portions of piping-hot entrées

SUSHI • SALAD • STIX

Vicky Armstrong’s vision for fabulous, fresh, fast, fun food prepared in the

beauty and style of Japanese cuisine is the foundation upon which Obento has

been built.

Using sushi as a base, Obento has created a tantalizing selection of rolls with

unique ingredients including smoked albacore, tofu cutlet, chicken, and habanero-

carrot tofu spread! The Obento Bowl, which combines sushi rice with our exceptional

cabbage slaw, is a healthy salad AND a hearty meal; it’s amazing!

With our move comes a great menu addition: stix. Inspired by the traditional

Japanese dish – yakitori - Obento is using an old family recipe and introducing

salmon, tofu, and yam in addition to chicken. These stix are served with steamed

rice, cabbage slaw, and a choice of our specialty dressings.

So, come to Henderson Center (behind JoAnn Fabrics) and let our friendly,

skillful staff prepare one of our specialties – or one of your own creations – foryour dining pleasure!
