MEDICAL BRIDGES

“recovers medical surplus that would otherwise be discarded and redistributes it to hospitals, clinics and healthcare providers in less fortunate countries. Our goal is to continue bridging the healthcare gap, connecting those who have with those who hope”

$9 billion of medical supplies are discarded each year in the United States

groups of up to 15 One weekend-Perhaps Saturday Oct 22? Sort and pack medical supplies

WOMEN’S HOME Multi-ethnic, non-denominational, non-

profit United Way agency Serves women who have experienced

homelessness because of mental illness, abuse or addiction

Organize parties/events for the women Halloween, Oct 31? Career Workshop?

VOLUNTEER INTERPRETING• WHERE? Ben Taub General Hospital• HOW LONG? Try to commit a minimum of 4 hours.• WHEN? Weekdays, almost any time of the day.

• REQUIREMENTS: • Training session• Exam (to assure fluency of the language)• 8 hours of shadowing other interpreters• Dress nice (you should get a uniform blouse)

BERING OMEGA“to nurture the well-being and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of persons affected by HIV/AIDS through compassionate health care and social services”

What can we do?• Care team for volunteering on weekends• Bayou City Art Festival!• When? – October 8th and 9th

Shift 1 – 9:00am – 1:00pmShift 2 – 12:00pm – 4:00pmShift 3 – 2:30pm – 6:30pm

• Where? – downtown (streets surrounding City Hall)• Why? – Bering Omega receives a portion of the

proceeds!• (you also get a free t-shirt and free admission!!)

SPRING RETREAT: CAMP C.A.M.P. (Children’s Association for

Maximum Potential) Camp for children and adults with

special needs MISSION

“…to strengthen and inspire individuals with special needs – and those who care for them – through Recreation, Respite, and Education”

LOCAL PROJECTS STILL IN PROGESS… Healthcare for the Homeless

provide long-term care for those who are unable to navigate a larger system of care; provide interim care for those who can transition into the public healthcare system; and provide medical street outreach to those who live on the streets and in single-night shelters.

MD Anderson—kids Baylor teen health clinic

“to help teenagers and young adults with health problems by lowering costs and teach them prevention methods”

Mentors for Moms: volunteers needed to provide support pregnant teen mothers through hospital visits and phone calls about proper nutrition, infant care, health care, etc.

MS society: Pursue prevention, treatment and cure Reach out to multiple sclerosis victims and their families

Each year, we run international summer service trips for Rice studentsOnly student organization on campus that

plans, executes, and fundraises for the CIC advises and watches over us
