CBI 1260 Woodward Heights Ferndale, MI 48220 [email protected] 800.747.8585 Human Resources Intern 2016 The Human Resources Intern will directly assist the Manager of Human Resources with a wide range of projects related to HR compliance, recruiting, onboarding/orientation, employee benefits, and administration. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that human resources can play in a company, and be better prepared to work in the arena of human resources. In addition the intern will divide his or her time with the executive office in a administrative support role, reinforcing the basic operations of a company and employee engagement. The intern will also have opportunities to network with the marketing, operations and professional services teams to further professional experience. The Human Resources Intern will learn the practical application of: Steps in the hiring process, including: creating job descriptions, reviewing resumes, conducting telephone and in-person interviews, and making job offers. The importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files and forms management. The interrelationship of HR and Finance in the areas of new employee paperwork, payroll issues related to onboarding and termination, use of a payroll management database, and report generation. Employee data management through the use of a Human Resource Information System (HRIS), implementation of a HRIS system and employee system training in addition to other database and systems management. Employee benefits management issues related to plan renewal and enrollment, benefits enrollment and termination, troubleshooting employee benefits issues and questions, and the customer service aspect of benefits oversight. Daily Respond to less complex employee questions and requests. Organization and maintenance of employee files- physical and electronic. Review of benefit alerts and system entry. Management of PTO approvals and logging. General HR administration as applicable.
