Human Health Risk Assessment Human Health Risk Assessment is a scientific tool which provides information regarding the nature and probability of adverse health effects under defined conditions of exposure. While the primary endpoints of the risk assessment process are quantitative estimates of hazard, exposure and risk, it is the application of information and insight derived from the evaluation that forms the basis for its use as a risk management tool. In recognition of the utility of risk assessment as a management tool, risk assessment practices are integrated with the site characterization process under CERCLA and RCRA regulations, as well as state hazardous waste programs. Through the risk assessment process, contaminants of concern and their potential fate and transport in the environment are identified, chemical toxicity is evaluated, potential receptors are identified and routes and estimated magnitude of exposure are quantified.
