Facebook and Twitter have collapsed all our conversations into one big bucket. As a consequence, we talk to our friends all at once like over a PA system regardless of what we’re sharing. Ironically, we feel less comfortable to share using the tools that were built for that purpose.

THEPROBLEM

Our real-life social circles are more complex than all or nothing conversations. There are circles in the middle and not all users are the same - close friends, co-workers, classmates, events and brands.

Huddl is a free group messaging app that enables more intimacy by aligning what people are sharing with their real-life social circles.

Demand for our type of product is exploding and we are positioned with our team and product to grow with demand and outdo current players.

We have over 2,000 users since launch who use the app daily. (and growing 10% per week)

Before Huddl, the co-founding team has worked together for 10+ years, with the most recent project being TripAlertz, a Groupon-for-travel type site that raised over $1.2M.

Huddl is a free group text messaging app that makes you comfortable to share once again by aligning your sharing with your real-life social circles. Huddl enables group messaging for all four use cases listed below.

Technology

Written in JAVA & hosted on Google App Engine and Amazon S3

The iPhone app is completed

We have an Android app and a web client currently in development

We use Google’s QR technology to connect to events, brands and to each other

The app integrates with Twilio, an SMS provider, that allows for truly platform-agnostic communication that degrades gracefully on all phones that have SMS capability

Other current integrations with Urban Airship, Facebook and Twitter

Market

Primary customers are smartphone users.

everyone can participate with an SMS enabled phone; the communication is platform-agnostic.

There are an estimated 600 million smartphone users worldwide.

Ideal customer profile: young trendy social butterflies, busy students, young parents, gadget fans, early technology adopters, active Facebook and Twitter users

User Aquisition

The app is inherently viral because of the way it is built:

users need to invite others in order to use the app.

the app makes it easy for users to share on Facebook and Twitter expanding awareness beyond current users and they WILL share because they want their friends to know fun things they’re doing.

Team will reach out to bloggers and press for visibility - will also reach out to vertical publications to push usage of public groups for event organizers and business owners
