    Hi Jazz Guitar Fans ,

The last meeting started off in fine style with Martin & Tom playing the

Django favourite Swing 42, which, since becoming band mates, shows their duoplaying developing very nicely.

Adrian then gave us the benefit of his extensive experience as a teacher, and highly respected musician, to demonstrate how to analyse a typical chart. Theexample used was Whats New and Adrian took us through the potential pratfallswhich the tune, and most real book charts, present to the performer. His clearpresentation style with numerous played examples was excellent, and I for onelook forward to further occasional seminars from him in the future.

Back to the main business where Jamie Holroyd and Jack Gillen gave ustwo lovely interpretations of Black Orpheus and Days of Wine and Roses .Every time these two LCM students come to HJGS Im delighted to see theconstant progress they make. Keep up the good work. Jamie is also building aname for himself with his internet teaching blogs.

Dave and Chris followed with their usual polished performance, choosingtwo tunes which dont often get an airing, at least in my experience, Cole Porters Everything I love and Herbie Hancocks Dolphin Dance .

Chris Flaherty managed to persuade Adrian to join him to play an oldchestnut ( Summertime ) and a young stripling ( Pure Imagination ). Both of whichwere I believe Chriss arrangements. The Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley songPure Imagination came from the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , andought to played more. Its a lovely tune and was beautifully played.

Committee member, committed teacher and fine player Darren joined by hisIdle Guits gave us two lovely renditions of Jobims Corcovado (Quiet Nights)and Darrens previous showcase tune Afternoon in Paris . I really enjoy seeing

the pleasure and confidence built up from ensemble playing.

And finally after a very busy evening Robin Thomas, with a rarely seen in theUK Maton guitar, treated us to another of his delightful arrangements, TheNearness of You .

What a great night, lots of new faces, great playing from all concerned withpointers to better playing supplied by Adrians brief seminar. Thank you all.

opposite directions, and works best with fingerstyle, although a proficient playerwith a pick could play it by deadening the unwanted notes in the chord form.

Nice as an ending for a ballad or medium tempo tune but also good as anintro, when followed by some form of D7alt to create tension. Enjoy! Adrian .
