Scratch! Scratch! What’s that sound? It’s the exquisite squirrel (me) climbing a tree with its small sharp claws. Hi! My name is Sydney squirrel and I possess vital protection, an exceptional habitat, incredible teeth, and a colorful coat. These are all unique things that will help me better represent Bucky Bighorn as the Colorado State animal.. Squirrels possess a difficulty in swimming but, they do an awesome job of climbing trees.

I the watchful squirrel possesses stunning protection traits. When climbing, I use my strong sharp claws to dig into the rough bark of the tree that makes me more surefooted.. Being surefooted helps me climb down trees headfirst and climb brick walls. My tail acts like a rudder to help me balance. When I communicate I usually make a “tcherr tcherr” sound which is me saying “Get out of my territory!” My friend Grim Gray Squirrel flicks his tail which means he is single threatened or annoyed.. My enemies are Carter the coyote, Foxy the fox, Scooter the skunk, Rooroo the raccoon, Woly the Wolf, Lenny the lynx, Bobby the bobcat, Hay thee hawk, Elba the eagle, Gillion Owl, And the most dangerous, Wanchita the weasel I really need to watch out for her. . My keen eyesight helps me detect food, glimpse at predators and rivals to detect hiding places. My large eyes help me see in the light at night. I (Sydney) am nocturnal so, I sleep in the day and play in the night.. I possess four incisor teeth and they grow six inches each year and they never stop except when I gnaw on bark.. My tail is large, bushy, and redish orange and it acts like a rudder and that helps me climb trees.

There are two-hundred and seventy species of squirrels in the world. I possess a very exceptional habitat. Grim gray squirrel resides in Southern Canada ample friends of his reside in North America.. I build my nest in a tree and in winter I move my family into a hole in the tree so that my family and keeps warm and safe from predators. Our hole is ether a natural hole or a deserted woodpecker hole. Our nest is made up of twigs and leaves and called dreys. I live in an area without umpteen trees, my aunt resides in a park, and my uncle resides in a yard of a three year old. My dad resides under a pile of rocks.

The hole I sometimes reside in is usually 7-8 inches deep and wide.

Did you know that gray squirrels are not all gray? My full grown fur is very colorful. I am red/brown, my belly is white with a white circle around each of my eyes. Black strips appear on each side of my body and an orange strip lays on the middle of my back. Observant, elegant, lovely, active, mature, Grim Gray Squirrel (my close friend) is disguised by the red squirrel. That is because there are patches of reddish fur on him. Few gray squirrels are completely gray. Ally (also my close friend) the antelope squirrel is a yellowish brown, with a white strip on each side of her body. Her body also comprises a black strip. In winter my coat is thicker than it is in summer but in spring my thick coat falls off which means I shed my fur. A very light coat for summer replaces the spring coat and this process is called molting. My coat is two layers of fur. The inner layer is made of short thin hairs and the outer layer is made of thicker and longer hairs called guard hairs. My eyes are also a almost black brown.

My fur is a red/brown.

There is a white stripe around my eyes.

My keen eyesight is 10% more keen then people. My eyesight is very keen! My eyesight helps me detect food, glimpse predators, peer at rivals, and detect places to hide. I can spot an acorn very far away when I’m in a tree.

Remember my four incisor teeth, unique protections’ including, climbing trees, and a nest called a dray and eyesight 10% better than people. All these will make me better represent Colorado as the state animal. No more Bucky the Bighorn!!!
