e.g sugar soft drinks, tomatoes ketchup. etc

Careers In Agriculture

Page 23: Http://uwiagriculturebridgingprogramme.weebly Agricultural Science Website.

Without a doubt, the agricultural workforce is changing dramatically as competition, climate, food demand, and high cost of farm inputs drives the scale of farming to levels where the farmer depends on workers beyond the farm family to get things done. The higher level and increasing complexity of technology also means that the agriculture producer (farmer) now relies on a network of specialized and technically trained individuals in agriculture.

Food Security

What is Food Security?

Why is so important to us in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean?

Food security is a condition related to the supply of food, and individuals' access to it.

Household food security exists when all members, at all times, have access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Individuals who are food secure do not live in hunger or fear of starvation. Food insecurity, on the other hand, is a situation of "limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways", according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)

Page 31: Http://uwiagriculturebridgingprogramme.weebly Agricultural Science Website.

The 1996 World Summit on Food Security declared that "food should not be used as an instrument for political and economic pressure".[3]According to the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development, failed agriculture market regulation and the lack of anti-dumping mechanisms cause much of the world's food scarcity and malnutrition.

Food Security

The World Food Summit of 1996 defined food security as existing “when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life”. Commonly, the concept of food security is defined as including both physical and economic access to food that meets people's dietary needs as well as their food preferences. In many countries, health problems related to dietary excess are an ever increasing threat, In fact, malnutrition and foodborne diarrhoea are become double burden.
