These HITACHI self-contained air condi-tioners are composed of compressors, air-cooled condensers, and an evaporator fan, condenser fans and control equipment, completely packaged in a weather proof cabinet, and are completely assembled, wired and tested at the factory.

These RUA units are provided with excellent performances that can be operated up to 52°C (125°F) of maximum ambient temperature, and the light weight, compact, weather proof design techniques make these air conditioners ideal for either on-the-ground or rooftop installation.

FEATURES

EFFICIENT, RELIABLE AND DURABLE NEW SERIES‧‧‧★ Baked Paint Galvanized Steel Panels Corrosion Resistant Cabinet ─ The weather proof characteristics of the panels have been significantly reinforced by the adoption of galvanized steel panel which have been coated with synthetic resin paint through our unique baking process. The resistant panels ensure long-lasting fine appearance, and maintenance work has been minimized. ★ Reliable Protection System Compressor Protection ─ Each compressor is protected with the following components: reverse phase protection, overcurrent protector, internal thermostat, high pressure switch, delay timer. This wide variety of protection devices provides perfect compressor guarding functions, assuring fewer service calls from customers. Fan Motor ─ The evaporator fan motors are protected with thermal overcurrent relay, internal thermostat (RUA-4AT3S, RUA-5AT3S only) and the condenser fan motors are protected with an internal thermostat.

★ Energy-Saving Design Highly-Efficient Compressor ─ Low power input is achieved by specially developed compressors and heat exchanger and their suitable combinations. Condenser ─ The adoption of a highly efficient super-slit fin heat exchanger provides low operation cost.

Evaporator ─ Highly efficient super-slit fin coils and inner grooved tube have been applied, to provide a large cooling capacity with low noise. Insulated Indoor Compartment ─ This insulation compartment effectively eliminates heat loss. Capacity Control (Dual circuit units) ─ Each unit is equipped with two or three compressors and two independent refrigeration cycles so that one compressor operation can reduce the operation cost against a half load of one large compressor (60% load operation is available for RUA-13AT3S and RUA-15AT3S, 66% load operation is available for RUA-30AT3S)

1. Determine the System Requirements Calculate the total cooling capacity, sensible heat capacity, evaporator airflow and required external static pressure according to the design conditions. Clarify the power source frequency and the climatic conditions

2. Select a Matching Model Select model RUA-15AT3S, by entering 40°C condenser air inlet temperature and 20°C evaporator air inlet wet bulb (WB) at 130m3/min. evaporator air flow (QA) into the Cooling Capacity Table. (RUA-15AT3S Unit will provide cooling capacity of 37,700 kcal/h and sensible heat capacity of 26,800 kcal/h)

3. Read Performance of the Model The total cooling capacity (TC), sensible heat capacity (SHC*) at the dry bulb given in the table, compressor power input (IPT) and sensible heat correction factor (CR) can be determined by interpolation (or some can be read directly from the table when the conditions coincide with the tabulated figures). 4. Correct the Sensible Heat Capacity (If Required)

Correct the sensible heat capacity for the given 29°C evaporator air inlet dry bulb from the tabulated 27°C dry bulb (DB*), according to the following formula.

SHC = SHC* + CR × (DB – DB*), Where SHC = corrected sensible heat capacity

(×1,000kcal/h ) SHC* = sensible heat capacity (×1,000kcal/h)

from the table. DB* = given evaporator air inlet dry bulb (°C)

and WB in the table. DB = evaporator air inlet dry bulb (°C)

given for each. For this example, SHC = 27.3 + 2.06×(29-27) = 31.4 (×1,000kcal/h)

5. Determine the Readjusting Requirement for Evaporator Fan From the Fan Performance Table (page 17) the required fan speeds and evaporator fan motor brake power are determined to be 1,080 rpm and 1.23 kW respectively. (Evaporator fan motor input is 1.7 kW as seen on page 23 Electrical data IPT column for evaporator fan motor at 415V). In this case, the factory-mounted standard fan motor (2.2 BkW) possesses sufficient capacity. However, the regulating thickness of the adjustable motor pulley should be readjusted to 2 mm (refer to “Fan Speed Adjusted” on page 21).

6. Determine the net capacities The capacities are gross capacities, which include the effect of evaporator fan motor heat. Determine the net cooling capacity as follows: net capacity = gross capacity – MIF heat = gross capacity – 1.7 (kW) X 860 (×kcal/kW-h) = 38,800 kcal/h – 1,462 kcal/h = 37,338 kcal/h net sensible capacity = 31,400 kcal/h – 1,462 kcal/h = 29,938 kcal/h

NOTE: Direct interpolation is permissible. Do not extrapolate.

CONTROL SYSTEM Refrigerant Control

Refrigeration Cycle These models are composed of one or two refrigeration cycles, containing a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator and the following control and auxiliary components. Capillary Tube ─ Multi-tube type capillaries are equipped for refrigerant flow control in the liquid line, providing equal distribution of refrigerant flow through the evaporator.

Strainer ─ A liquid line strainer is equipped upstream of the capillary tube.

Electrical Operation Control A field-supplied main power switch supplies to the unit. When the room thermostat is set at “FAN ON” position, the indoor fan is started. When the room thermostat is set at “FAN AUTO” and “COOL ON” position, all electrical and protective devices are satisfied, the thermostat in the room thermostat controls the compressor operation (refer to “Operational Sequence Chart”).

Function of Safety Devices Automatic Restarting System (Standard Sequence) ─ The timer relay for compressor connected in the compressor control circuit delays the compressor restarting period for approximately three (3) minutes after the thermostat calls for the cooling operation or automatic resetting of the protection devices, thereby preventing a harmful compressor cycling operation.

Protection and Safety ControlCompressor Protection

All units are equipped with the following compressor protection system, in order to provide a perfect guarding function for the compressor.

High Pressure Switch ─ Leading the pressure from the compressor discharge line the switch cuts out the compressor operation when the discharge pressure exceeds the setting.

Overcurrent Transformer ─ This sensor stop the compressor operation when the current exceeds the setting.

Internal thermostat for Compressor ─ Embedded in the compressor motor winding, this thermostat cuts out the compressor operation when the compressor winding temperature exceeds the setting.

Reverse Phase Protection ─ The reverse phase protection which is a built-in function of PCB will make the compressor not start, when the power source is incorrectly connected.

Compressor Cycling Protection Timer ─ This timer which is a built-in function of PCB provides the above combination with the most effective functions by delaying the compressor restarting period (refer to “Operational Sequence Chart”).

Other Protection

The fan motor is protected by the following device:

Overcurrent Relay for Evaporator Fan Motor ─ This manual reset type thermal overcurrent relay for the evaporator fan motor interlock system operation.

Internal thermostat for Condenser Fan Motor ─ Embedded in the fan motor winding, this internal thermostat cuts out the operation of the fan motor when winding temperature exceeds the setting.

Field Piping Provisions Condensate Drain Piping A female piping thread screw connection is provided. The drain lines must be trapped to ensure complete drainage, and to prevent outside air from entering. Dimension ”L” in the figure should be 50 mm to 100 mm, which is determined by return air duct design.

INSTALLATION DATA

Wiring Provisions Field Wiring The units are internally wired at the factory according to generally accepted electrical technology.

Required Field Wiring ─ Main power wiring to the unit, control wiring between the room thermostat and the unit, and earth wiring are required in the field.

Required Components ─ The following components are required: main power switch, main power fuses, conduit coupling, and field supplied room thermostat. Wire and Fuse Size Selection for Main Power Source Wire and fuse sizes should be selected in accordance with national and local codes, taking the designed maximum temperature into account. The unit maximum current shall be the total of the compressor maximum current, condenser fan motor current and evaporator fan motor current (refer to “Electrical Data”)

Wire Size Between Room Thermostat and Unit The wire size between the Room Thermostat and the unit should be determined according to the following table, because the 24 V power source is applied to the control circuit.

SPECIFICATIONS

Standard Specifications UNIT ─ The unit shall be a self-contained air conditioner for application with R-22 refrigerant, and shall be composed of one or two refrigeration cycle(s), electrical components and an enclosing cabinet in one piece. Optional accessories shall be also provided upon customer request. The unit shall be completely weather proofed for outdoor installation, and shall be properly assembled, internally piped and wired, thoroughly tested and operating charged with R-22 refrigerant at the factory. CAPACITY ─ The total cooling capacity of the unit shall be kcal/h or greater, and the sensible heat capacity shall be kcal/h or greater with °C evaporator air inlet dry bulb, °C evaporator air inlet wet bulb, °C condenser air inlet temperature and m3/min. evaporator air flow. The total compressor power input shall not exceed kW. CABINET ─ The cabinet shall be constructed of galvanized steel, baked with synthetic resin paint. The service panels shall be easily removable for service access to the electrical components, compressor, and condenser fan section. REFRIGERATION CYCLE ─ The refrigeration cycle shall be equipped with a hermetic compressor, an air-cooled condenser coil, a liquid line strainer, multi-tube type capillary tubes, an evaporator coil, a check joint for high pressure and a check joint for low pressure. COMPRESSOR ─ The compressor shall be a hermetic compressor. The starting method shall be the direct-on-line type. The hermetic compressor shall be a welded shell type, and spring-suspended internally. The compressor shall be mounted on vibration-proof rubber bushings. EVAPORATOR FAN AND MOTOR ─ The evaporator fan shall be the forward-curved, multi-blade centrifugal type, statically and dynamically balanced, and belt driven by a kW motor. The fan shaft bearing and fan motor shall be permanently lubricated. The fan(s) shall deliver m3/min. with mmAq external static pressure at rpm.

CONDENSER FAN AND MOTOR ─ The condenser fan shall be the aluminum type, dynamically and statically balanced, and the fan shall be directly driven by a kW motor for up-flow air discharge. The motor shall be permanently lubricated, and protected from water invasion. EVAPORATOR ─ The evaporator shall be the multi-pass, cross-finned tube type, equipped with highly efficient aluminum fins, mechanically bonded to seamless, oxygen-free tubes. The fins shall be spaced at more than 12 fins per 25.4 mm. The face area shall not be less than m2. The coil shall be cleaned, dehydrated and tested for leakage at the factory. CONDENSER ─ The air-cooled coil shall be the multi-pass, cross-finned tube type, equipped with highly efficient aluminum fins, mechanically bonded to oxygen-free copper tubes. The coil shall be cleaned, dehydrated and tested for leakage at the factory. COMPRESSOR PROTECTION ─ The compressor shall be protected against breakdown by an overcurrent transformer, a high-pressure switch, a built-in internal thermostat and cycling protect circuit. CONTROL ─ All electrical control devices, except for a room thermostat, shall be enclosed in weather proof locations of the unit. In addition to the compressor protection devices, the unit shall be provided with a magnetic contactor and a thermal overcurrent relay for the evaporator fan motor. The outdoor fan motor shall share the magnetic contactor with the compressor. ACCESSORIES ─ The optional accessories for field installation shall include a filter box. Room thermostat shall be field supplied.
