HT.B Mechanical Coupler - NOW LAUNCHED
The function of the HT.B Mechanical Coupler is to connect 2 deformed steel reinforcing bars to create structural
continuity of the reinforcing system.
Introduction to Hy-Ten
www.hy-ten.co.uk L Next Page ÔLast PageÑContact Ó
Hy-Ten is a leading stockist and fabricator of concretereinforcement bar, mesh and accessories.
The company has a UK network of 12 manufacturing centres from which it provides an innovative, rapid and cost effective service to building and civil engineering contractors throughout the UK, Eire & the World.
Hy-Ten is the exclusive British Isles and UAE manufacturer and supplier of Bamtec - concrete slab reinforcement that comes in a roll.
The most efficient concrete reinforcement system available, Bamtec reduces site fixing costs by up to 75% and reduces tonnage requirements by up to 35%.
One of our most significant innovations is the HT Coupler - a friction welded reinforcement coupler that is Cares approved and offers substantial benefits in terms of cost, quality and lead time.
The company also manufactures and distributes gabions and landreinforcement, industrial welded mesh, security fencing, structuralsteelwork, steel lintels and sheet piling.
The Hy-Ten Group is based at Richmond, Surrey, UK and currently hasan annual turnover of £100 million. The Group was founded in 1958 and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2018.

Introduction to the HT Coupler
The HT Coupler range is for the mechanical connection of deformed steel reinforcing bars complying with BS4449 grades 500B & 500C and ASTM A615 grades 60 & 75.
The HT Coupler is CARES approved to TA1-B and TA1-C (including the performance requirements of EC2 & Sellafield Technical Standards).
The HT Range consists of the HT.S Standard Coupler, HT.P, HT.EP & HT.LT Positional Couplers, HT.C Connecting Coupler and HT.A & HT.EA Mechanical Anchors.
The Standard and Positional HT Couplers can be used not only where the 2 bars are of the same diameter, but also where the 2 bars are of different diameter (i.e. transitional joints).
The HT.S is used where at least 1 bar is rotatable. The HT.P is used where neither bar is rotatable and at least 1 bar is moveable. The HT.EP is used where neither bar is rotatable, at least 1 bar is movable and length adjustment of the coupler is required. The HT.LT is used where neither bar is rotatable, at least 1 bar is movable and an extended length adjustment of the coupler is required.
The HT Coupler heads are produced and threaded in a dedicated production facility using CNC lathes. This results in a high quality product with more accurate & consistent threads than can be achieved through the rebar threading required by other systems.
The high quality threads also mean that a torque wrench is not required for on-site installation.
The HT Coupler heads are welded onto the appropriate rebars using the computer controlled HT Friction Welder. This process is much faster than the threading of rebars required by other systems.
The combination of the friction welding process and the high quality machined threads allows the system to achieve bar break and to have substantial advantages in terms of...

HT.B Installation
HT.B Mechanical Coupler - Installation
HY-TEN HT.B, an in-situ rebar splice, requires no bar-end preparation, sawing or swaging. It can be used for new construction, repair, or retrofit applications. This mechanical rebar splice is designed for use in reinforced concrete applications such as column splicing, bridge applications, piling, splicing to protruding dowels cast in concrete and beams.
The couplers can be installed with a standard wrench, electric or pneumatic power tool. The bolt heads will shear off when the required torque value has been reached, which allows for complete visual inspection.
www.hy-ten.co.uk L Next Page ÔLast PageÑContact Ó
Ensure the rebar is free of any excessive dirt, concrete slurry, rust etc. which may affect the products performance. Ensure that any burrs at the end of the rebar do not exceed the inside diameter of the coupler, as it will interfere with installation.
Place the rebar into the HT.B Coupler until contact is made with the centre stop pin. The rebar must be flush against the centre stop pin.
Tighten the shear bolts partly, using the appropriate tool.
Repeat this at the other end and tighten the remaining shear bolts, check the alignment and make any necessary adjustments.
Tighten the bolts until they shear off using either a standard ratchet wrench, electric or pneumatic power tool. Do not use impact power tools. Starting from the centre of the coupler and working to the outside
(1 to 10), towards the end of the coupler.
The installation will be completed after all bolts are sheared off.
If the bolt heads do not shear off, the heads can be cut off the after maximum torque value
has been applied.
HT Metric Threading
Hy-Ten can offer metric threading on coupled, threaded or regular steel reinforcement.
• Bars can be metric threaded to any length • Table 1 shows the metric thread achievable on rebar diameters • Subject to availability various other sizes can be offered • Nuts and washers can be supplied

Advantages:• Quick and easy• Cost effective• Readily available
The HT.C Connecting Coupler provides a quick and easy solution for connecting reinforcement to structural steel sections or plates.
Similar to the standard coupler, the weldable coupler is internally threaded on one end, with the other end prepared for welding.
The HT.C Connecting Coupler has an internally tapered thread on one end and the other end is prepared for welding. The couplers are usually arc welded to the structural steel. The HT.C Connecting Coupler weld advice should be adhered to.

Both male threads of the HT Coupler joint are always delivered to site welded to the appropriate re-bar.
The formation of the joint is achieved by bringing the two male threads and a female coupler together.
The threads are then screwed together by rotating the female coupler using a wrench until there is no further movement available between the sections.
NO TORQUE WRENCH REQUIRED
The two sections of the joint and female coupler are brought together
The female coupler is engaged onto the first thread of the longer left hand closing thread. The left hand thread is marked with an indented line at the base of the thread it marries up with a line marked on the female coupler.
The right hand thread is offered up and they are tightened together by turning the female coupler using a wrench until there is no further movement between the sections.

The HT Conti-Rack System is an alternative to traditional continuity/pull out bar systems.
Advantages• Can accomodate bar diameters 12mm to 40mm• Can accomodate a wide range of bar centres and shapes• No double bending of rebar• Quick installation • Superior construction joint• Avoids congestion at the construction joint• No torque wrench required
The HT Conti-Rack can be used in situations where a traditional/pull out bar casing would be too heavy, large or expensive to be practical.
Such situations can occur when...
• Bar diameters are greater than 12mm• Lap lengths are designed to Eurocode 2• Wall designs are too thin to accomodate traditional system casings
