Page 1 of 27 PUBLIC HSBC Bangladesh Commemorates National Mourning Day 2021 Bangladesh Bank Report To commemorate the National Mourning Day 2021 and the 46th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, HSBC Bangladesh has implemented number of initiatives throughout the month for its customers, colleagues and for the community. A special emblem was used in all the HSBC events which featured a painting of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by famous Bangladeshi painter Qayyum Chowdhury and lines from much acclaimed poet Shamsur Rahman’s poem ‘Dhonno Shei Purush’. Special speakers to the webinar was HE the British High Commissioner in Bangladesh and HE Ambassador to Japan narrating Bangabandhu’s historic visit to UK and Japan respectively. Four eminent cultural personalities also spoke about Bangabandhu. See Appendix 01 below

To commemorate the National Mourning Day 2021 and the 46th death anniversary of the ‘Father of the Nation’, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, HSBC Bangladesh has implemented number of initiatives throughout the month for its customers, colleagues and for the community. Tree Plantation in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) at Mirsarai
HSBC Bangladesh partnered with Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and BRAC to build the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) greener. Through this initiative, HSBC will ensure over 40,000 Mangroves plantation across 10 acres of coastal land in this Economic Zone at Mirsarai. The Mangrove plantation is estimated to capture 492 tons of carbon each year. HSBC Bangladesh CEO along with BEZA and BRAC high officials travelled to the economic zone at Mirsarai and planted saplings to inaugurate this plantation.

Bangabandhu: At Home and Abroad
HSBC Bangladesh organised a virtual event to commemorate the National Mourning Day 2021, 46th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In this webinar, hosted by HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md. Mahbub ur Rahman. We showcased Bangabandhu’s leadership in shaping the nation and bridging Bangladesh internationally. Two specially made videos were shown on Bangabandhu’s historic visit to the UK and Japan which paved the way for a great bilateral relation which still prevails. The event was also attended by His Excellency Robert M. F. Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner to People’s Republic of Bangladesh and His Excellency ITO Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The webinar started with a one-minute silence in honour of the Father of the Nation Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Then a specially arranged version of Bangladesh’s National Anthem, ‘Amar Shonar Bangla’ performed by eminent Tagore exponent Adity Mohsin was played.

In his speech Md. Mahbub ur Rahman’s underscored Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s charismatic life, his contributions and achievement for his people, his efforts in bridging Bangladesh internationally and his deep routed cultural affinity. Two specially made videos on Bangabandhu’s historic UK and Japan visit were shown. His Excellencies British High Commissioner and Japanese Ambassador spoke on Bangabandhu’s historic visit to their countries and his futuristic visionary ways on Bi- lateral relationships.

Eminent cultural personalities Nirmalendu Goon and Anwara Syed Haq and from Kolkata, famous singer and teacher Bhaskar Roy, son of the great Ansuman Roy – the lyricist and performer of the famous song ‘Shono Ekti Mujib’ then mesmerised the audience with their memories of Bangabandhu over a special segment called ‘Kothopokothon’. In this segment the speakers spoke about Bangabandhu and his cultural affinity.
The webinar highlighted Bangabandhu as the Beacon of Bengal at Home and Abroad and through his charismatic personality not only at the local level but also beyond the borders, globally. The guests and the participants of the event spoke about Bangbandhu’s unique leadership, patriotism, knowledge, him as the“friend of Bengal” and his cultural affinity.

To commemorate the National Mourning Day 2021, HSBC Bangladesh partnered with Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and BRAC to build the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) greener. Special discussion held on ‘Bangabandhu’ in HSBC Bangladesh Executive Committee Meeting A special agenda item was covered at the August 2021 Executive Committee Meeting, in participation of HSBC Bangladesh Executive Committee members and their representatives. The session began with a short video on the life and contribution of the father of the nation. After that, HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md. Mahbub ur Rahman led the segment by observing one-minute silence, remembering the father of the nation. In his speech, the CEO highlighted Bangabandhu’s bravery and spirit toward the journey of independence of Bangladesh, his charismatic ways of building relations at home and abroad. He further added that Bangabandhu’s visionary leadership enabled Bangladesh to spread the positive country image in the international area.
