HR CONTACT SPOTLIGHT

Name: Sco Moreau

Hometown: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Educa on: Bachelor’s of Science in Accoun ng from Louisiana State University

What do you do in your department, including job  tle and area?

I am the Business Manager in the Office of Research & Economic Development and my focus is managing the departmental finances as well as managing resources ORED makes available to the colleges and departments to fulfill its flagship research mission.

How long have you been with LSU?

I have worked at LSU for 14 years.

What has been your most sa sfying or rewarding experience as an HR professional?

My most rewarding experience as an HR professional has been to serve on several search commi ees as well as have the opportunity to work closely with other HR professionals, faculty and staff.

What is the strangest thing you’ve come across as an HR professional? The strangest thing I have ran across as an HR professional is some of the interes ng resumes and cover le ers I read.

What do you like most about working at LSU? I love many things including the campus atmosphere (especially Fall Fest and game day), the individuals I interact with on a daily basis and working in a job that supports the research mission of LSU. Because of my passion for LSU, I represent professional staff in Staff Senate as well as serve in the Emergency Opera ons Center when called upon.

Tell us something interes ng about yourself.   The first thing I see when I walk out my front door is a view of Tiger Stadium (and I throw a great tailgate party too!)

The Great American Smokeout - Third Thursday of November No, it is not a huge BBQ. The American Cancer Society marks the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday in

November every year by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit

smoking that day. Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the

US, yet about 43.8 million Americans s ll smoke cigare es— 1 in every 5 adults.

Qui ng smoking is not easy, but you can do it! Here are some benefits of qui ng over  me:

20 minutes a er qui ng: Blood pressure and heart rate begin to decreased to normal levels.

24 hours a er qui ng: Risk for heart a ack has begun to drop.

48 hours a er qui ng: Ability to smell and taste is enhanced.

3 days a er qui ng: Nico ne is out of your body...withdrawal symptoms generally peak at this me.

1 ‐ 9 months a er qui ng: Lungs begin to repair and func on properly again; breathing has become easier.

1 year a er qui ng: Your risk of heart disease is lowered by 50 percent.

10 years a er qui ng: Your risk of dying from lung cancer is lowered by 50 percent.

How much has smoking cost you? Take this example of someone who’s been smoking 6 cigare es a day for 25 years

at $6 a pack. That person has spent an es mated $16,500 on cigare es! If that same person con nues to smoke for

another 10 years, it will cost an addi onal $6,500. Think of all the other things you could do with that money!

Assist your co‐workers in qui ng by crea ng helpful ways for them to reach their goal. You can have a department

compe on for the most “kept” pledges to quit. You can have “stop‐using tobacco” sta ons where smokers can

trade their cigare es for chewing gum, lollipops, etc. “The Great American Smokeout” Cancer.org
