The animal health division and the Present Problem

The animal health division of ACI Pharmaceutical started its journey in the year

2000with the purpose to supply animal health care products to the market. And

from the very beginning of their journey this division of ACI Pharmaceuticals was

performing well to satisfy their in-house customers. They have started with a very

small product line and within this short period of time they have increased theproduct line. At present they are having 50 different products including vitamin,

    Feed Premix and antibiotic.

Although the animal health care division have some limitation but even though

they have shown a good performance and lastly it has been found that they have a

huge demand in the local market. These demands compel them to supply product

    to the customers.

    Unethical business policy of market

ACI is a one of the best leading Pharmaceuticals Company in our country. ACI is

also the first Company in Bangladesh to get certification of ISO 14001. ACI mottois to contribute in the both human and animal health sectors by providing

important medications which are not available in our country. They face the

economic and social challenges in our country. Whatever the challenges they face,

their motto of providing both human and animal health care sector with the quality

products will never be compromised. ACI employees are proud of their workculture, business ethics and environmental consciousness.

After several years in this business, ACI realized the role of positive work ethic.

As they are in such a business where ethic and moral values are very much

needed. And regarding the pharmaceuticals business they are really following an

ethic. But there are some unethical business policies in the medicine market that is

very unexpected. In our country every year almost one new pharmaceutical

company establish. For marketing their new products they follow the unethical

business policy. Some of the small companies give bribe to some doctors to writedown their medicines in the patients prescription. But it is very illegal according

to our countrys law and also condemnable acts. In this way they want to expand

their marketing. But it has a bad impact on medicine market. It will resist the

improvement of quality of the medicines. And public health will be harmful. So, it

should be strictly protected. Government should take the necessary step to stopthese unethical businesses. By concerning of public it can resist.

    Under rate crisis

In our country every year almost one new pharmaceutical company is being

established. For marketing their new products they follow the unethical businesspolicy. Some of the small companies give bribe to some doctors to write down

their medicines in the patients prescription and some of the companies are trying

to market their products under actual rates. They supply the medicines in the

marketing below the average market rates. In this way they want dumping and

influence into their products over other companies products. But it is very illegal

according to our countrys law and also condemnable acts. In this way they want

to expand their marketing. But it has a bad impact on medicine market.

In the case of promoting the product at present they do not have any promotional

activity. They only have the brochure where they try to introduce their products.

Besides the health care division does not have any separate marketing channel.

The management of ACI Pharmaceuticals by the time has found a favorable notion

from this animal health care Division. And for that reason they want to start a new

journey. But they are having some problem regarding the market potential. So they

need to justify the demand of the health care products. And for doing that they arefacing some problems.

Medicines - an important material for commercial poultry farm

Unlike other countries, Bangladesh is also facing the problems of animal diseases. The diseases are affecting the Poultry Firms directly and indirectly. So, at any cost

farmers are maintaining the firms out from diseases otherwise starting from

epidemic to severe financial loss may incur. Usually Bacteria, Virus, Saprophytes,

Fungus, Malnutrition, Chemical Reaction and some other unknown diseases are

responsible for direct and indirect infections. Generally the Bangladeshi farmersdo not know that much about the poultry diseases. Farmers think about the

treatment after the diseases attack the poultry. Most of the cases small farmers do

not show interest to take prevention about diseases in order to avoid the cost.

Though some farmers has the vaccination, still they do not bother for the Chemical

Reaction, malnutrition and other diseases and as a result they become the victimwithout being aware of it. Infections are always a big threat for Poultry health.

Ranikhet, Gamboro, Faul Pox, Infectitous Broncataties, Coccideosis, Infectus

Coraiga, Aflatoxicosis, Eggdrop syndrome etc are having a direct effect on poultry

firms. If not controlled it can be turned into an epidemic. Also birds are affected

with malnutrition for feeding of low quality foods.

Medicines, Vaccines and Vitamins are very important among the other

ingredients. Most of these ingredients are imported from Europe, America, Korea,

Singapore, and India. There are some reputed companies who are importing andmarketing these medicines, vaccines and vitamins. Now vaccines worth have 16-

core and medicines worth of 60 core are available in Bangladesh but farmer are

being deceived because of the supply of some low quality products from some

companies. As small farmers are more dependent on dealers and agents, the

possibility of being deceived is higher for them.

The management of ACI Pharmaceuticals by the time has found a favorable notion

from this animal health care Division. And for that reason they want to start a new

journey. The animal health care division of ACI Pharmaceuticals thus has a good

prospect in the present market. This is indeed a great opportunity of ACI to in

    crease their market.

Some of them are doing unethical practice by supplying the medicines at a high

rate, which is a huge waste of money. The farmers should be aware about them

and they should collect the medicines from the reputed companies but recently

farmers are becoming more aware about

the diseases and they are trying to learn about the diseases so that they can avoid

    the situation.

Diagnosis of disease: an important activity to save the poultry industry

Disease creates problems in the good health of different parts of the body. Not

only for human being, it is applicable for all the animals of the earth, which is verytrue about the poultry chicken because they are very sensitive about any

mismanagement. They need some extra care as they grow in a sensitive

environment. They also may react in different weather and the diseases may attack

climate and the chickens and hens if the environment is not controlled. That's why

it very important to save them from any kind of diseases for marketing the poultry.Though generally farmers give vaccines to the poultry but it has been found that

the poultry are becoming sick and epidemic. The reason behind is farmers do not

check whether the vaccines are ineffective or not. Vaccines is use to protect the

poultry from the diseases and microbes are entered through the vaccines and if

microbes do not enter in sufficient amount and if the activity does not contain the

security then the vaccination will be a lost project. As farmers have least idea

about Ranikhet, Gamboro, Faul Pox, Infectitous Broncataties, Coccideosis,

Infectus Coraiga, Aflatoxicosis, Eggdrop and there is a very high possibility to be

infected by them, the farmers should have the clear concept about the diagnosis. If

the farmers can detect the diseases beforehand then by taking preventive measuresthey can save some abnormal loss and that's why it is very important to know

about the diagnosis of the diseases.

As Bangladeshi farmers are weak in poultry management, in the same way theyhave lack of knowledge about the proper diagnosis of the poultry also. It is one of

the major reasons that epidemic takes place. To save the poultry from all the

diseases and infections the farmers should have a strict organic security and also

they have to monitor whether the poultry conducting any unusual behavior or not.

It's better to prevent them by taking the necessary action beforehand rather than

taking the action to feed the medicines after the infection. This willgive two advantage, one is it will save some unusual expenses and it will have less

indirect effect on human body. So it will be a profitable thing if farmers take care

about proper diagnosis of the poultry. That's why farmer should take necessary

training on diagnosis and should maintain a regular communication with the

diagnostic centers and if necessary there should special diagnostic zones adjacent

to the big farms. The officials of different diagnostic centers can visit the farms

often and through that the farmers can learn to diagnosis and to take the properhelp form the concerned department. Government, Private sector and other big

entrepreneurs can invest to establish diagnostic centers.

Foreign Investors can also be called for this. It is necessary to establish the latest

and scientific diagnostic laboratory in Bangladesh. There are few diagnosticcenters that are not sufficient enough to meet the demand of the poultry industry.

It is agreed that to make the poultry industry profitable, it is necessary to give

importance to the diagnosis sector and establish latest and scientific diagnostic

    centers.

Animal health care products and ACI Pharmaceuticals

In Bangladesh private sector investment in rural based agro-industries is

significant enough. Established business houses are yet to divert their attention in

such non-traditional propositions. However, towards end 80's a huge number of

poultry farms have come up with keen interest in development of poultry sector

and subsequently became active as multidimensional conglomerate. As a result it

has been noticed that a strong demand has risen up for animal health care products

among which different types of veterinary items are mostly noticeable.

In Bangladesh per capita consumption of meat is below 1kg.Assuming that, if we

can increase this figure up to 1.5 kg then a dramatic change in our poultry sector

    can be observed.

To fulfill this gap in between high demand and poor supply of animal health care

products domestically ACI Pharmaceuticals has recently introduced a new product

line that gives much emphasis on Vitamins (different kinds of vitamins which are

required for the rapid growth of chicken) and Ox Tetracycline (a kind of medicine

used for preserving poultry feed) required for poultry farming. This recent project

follows up the company's new idea to establish a full-fledged animal health caredivision namely ACI health care division with its marketing infrastructure. The

company has set up its target to gain 25% to 30% market share of the domestic

market of animal health care products. Simultaneously, the project goal is to hold

the position among the top five companies in the related field by the year

    2005/2006.

Within the next few months ACI Pharmaceutical is planning to launch their animalhealth based products in the market. As a result, in present days, they are passing

through a situation, which need information to make decisions regarding the

market of the products of animal heath care product line of the company. In this

respect, the company is in a need to figure out the market potential for animal

    health based products.

As the prime products of this animal health care product line are Vitade (Vitamin

83Ad3E) and Oxin WS (Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride) the company is interested

to consider these two products for measuring market potential. Here market

potential has been defined as the current demand among the customers of ourcountry for animal health care products of ACI Pharmaceuticals.
