BUILDINGGLOBAL LEADERSHIP

Guru Morning 20 October 2014

“The best leaders understand that long-term results are created by all of the great people doing the work — not just the one person who has the privilege of being at the top.”

Leading in an era where intellectual capital is the dominant source of value has become increasingly complex. Drawing on a multitude of best-selling leadership books, Marshall shows why the skills of today’s global leaders won’t be enough and why tomorrow’s leaders won’t resemble today’s. Goldsmith identifies five new “factors of leadership” and their implications on the world of work today and tomorrow. Marshall offers unprecedented insight into the new challenges of global leadership and what it will take to meet them.

Marshall is a world authority in helping successful leaders achieve positive, lasting change in behaviour: for themselves, their people and their teams. He is the million-selling author or editor of 31 books, including the bestsellers, MOJO and What Got You Here Won’t Get You There – a WSJ #1 business book and winner of the Harold Longman Award for Business Book of the Year. His books have been translated into 28 languages and become bestsellers in eight countries.

Marshall was recently recognised as one of the fifteen most influential business thinkers in the world in the global bi-annual study by The Times and Forbes

Guru Morning 21 October 2014

LIz WiSEMan

What could your organisation accomplish with access to all the intelligence that sits inside it?

In a time of constant change, success depends on seeing the world through rookie eyes. We are often at our best when we are doing something for the first time. But how do you reclaim and cultivate this curious, flexible and youthful mind-set? Leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them and inspire employees to stretch themselves and get more from other people are Multipliers.

Liz Wiseman teaches leadership to executives around the world. She is the author of the Wall Street Journal bestseller “Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter”. She writes for a variety of business and leadership journals, including Harvard Business Review.

Liz has been listed on the Thinkers50 ranking and named as one of the top 10 leadership thinkers in the world. She is the former VP of HR at Oracle and has worked in various executive roles during her 17 years there. Liz has also started and led Oracle University from a small new-hire training department to a full corporate university with global scope.

INTRODUCINGTHE FUTURE OF HR

Guru Morning 22 October 2014

DAvEULRich

For the last 20 years, strategic HR has been in vogue. In the traditional view, strategy is a mirror in which HR sees and aligns its practices to help deliver business results. “HR from the Outside In” is the future in which strategy is not a mirror, but a window through which HR professionals align their work with forces and stakeholders outside their organisations. Welcome to next generation HR.

Dave Ulrich is a Professor at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. He studies how organisations build capabilities of leadership, speed, learning, accountability, and talent through leveraging human resources.

Dave is considered one of the most influential people in hr (HR Magazine, 2010). He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) in 2007 and was one of the “world’s top five” business coaches by Forbes magazine.

He has published over 25 books including best-sellers like “HR from the Outside In”, “The Why of Work”, “HR Transformation” and “The Leadership Code”. He has consulted and done research with over half of the Fortune 200 companies.

“The ultimate test of HR and leadership is value creation, and building on strengths that strengthen others.”

“What is life if it isn’t an adventure? It’s all about finding belief, confidence, motivation and commitment. Then there are no limits.”

Can you find opportunity in difficulty?

Can adversity elicit things in you that would have lain dormant otherwise?

Karen is a living proof of all of that.

Karen speaks from the heart, and inspires audiences in businesses around the globe. She shares personal stories focused on overcoming challenges, embracing change and achieving the ‘unachievable’. As a learning and development specialist and with personal experience of working in corporate and public sectors, she is able to connect with a wide range of clients, large audiences and small teams.

Karen was a keen runner and mountaineer before becoming paralysed in a rock-climbing accident, and has since pursued alternative ways to access the outdoors – canoeing, sit-skiing and hand-cycling. She has hand-cycled in various corners of the world, including Central Asia and the Himalaya, the Karakoram and the length of the Japanese archipelago. She is currently a full-time athlete with the British Paracycling Team, has won a silver medal in the London 2012 Paralympics, and was world paratriathlon Champion in 2012 and a silver medallist in 2013.
