Energy and Environment Foundation New Delhi
Feb. 15-17, 2016
Issues addressed • Introduction
• Industry and Technology
• Technology issues
• Skill development & Talent management
• Concluding remarks
We all know …… • In all Industries and Institutions Human Resource (HR) is the most important (Eg. HR in developed and under developed countries)
• Country’s Economy depends on technically skilled man power •Proper utilization and management of HR gives better output
Hydrocarbon Industry Scenario…..
• Earlier Exploration techniques are based on conventional techniques. Now new techniques are required due to depleted resources. Accordingly, HR need to develop skills in new technology…
• Hydrocarbon exploration is now focusing on a) Tapping of deeper resources of oil and coal b) Shale Gas c) CBM d) UCG Etc….
Problem-1….(Technology)
• New Technologies are being introduced
by the industry on a fast track to tap new resources
• But understanding and transferring this technology
to the students by the Academic institutions
is either Nil or lagging behind..
A few Examples on Technology Advancement….
Earlier Present
Conventional Seismics 3D and 4D Seismics
Conventional Gravity Gradiometry, micro Gravity
Conventional Electromagnetic Marine Electromagnetic (MMT,CSEM etc.)
Vertical Drilling Horizontal Drilling
Simple bore holes Hydrofracking through boreholes…
General Scenario in India…..
Petrocoal Industry Academia
Implementing latest technology Teaching conventional techniques
Poor connection with Academy Less contact with Industry
Industry Professionals are always on implementation with speed as production is the motivation
Academic Professors are too slow in updating with the new techniques
Leaving the industry after retirement to become consultants
No good policy to attract the industry professionals…
Output is based on speed and production…
Output is restricted to research papers
Nobody can stop the age of an employee Aging is a global phenomenon Aging has Economic implications No focus paid on post retirement of employees…
Problem-2 (Ageing….)
Analysis of an Organization….. (Balanced Manpower Distribution)

GERMI
GERMI is trying to bridge the gap between the two through Industrial Training and Workshops
GERMI’s Initiatives on Skill Development
• Introduced Summer Intern Programme for students from reputed institutions (IIT’s, ISM, PDPU etc…)
• We have trained more than 100 students (B.Tech and M.Tech in Hydrocarbon, Solar and Environment sectors) so far under this programme.
• Our students with latest information/knowledge ready to enter Petrocoal Industry
GERMI’s New Initiatives • Initiation of Solar roof tops and labs at 6 ITI’s
• Initiation of Smart school through GTU
• Initiation of National Certification Programme
(Aim: 10,000 technicians/Year)
• Initiation of Solar Training for Woman
Inauguration of 6 ITI Solar roof top and labs in Gujarat
Smart Cities by Smart People through Smart School, Gujarat
GERMI and GTU, Gujarat are working to develop HR for Smart Cities

Concluding Remarks • Human Resource (HR) is the most important for any country or an
organization…..
(Eg. HR in developed and under developed countries)
• Technology in Hydrocarbons and Coal sector is changing and Industry is implementing it rapidly but Academia is lagging behind. This is one of the problem in India….
• There is a need to increase the skills of younger generation to the needs of the industry through professional training programmes
• There is also need to manage the talent available with experienced Industry professionals by absorbing them to the Academic sector…
• Our research should be based on Industry need and orientation
