HPV Vaccine Survey Project
Roshan Bastani and Vicky Taylor
UCLA and U Washington
All interested CPCRN Network Sites
Concept
• Window of opportunity to gather timely data on HPV vaccine in underrepresented communities
• Data that could inform collaborative intervention projects
• Utilize network synergies to:– recruit populations underrepresented in HPV vaccine
research– use common content, implement survey – analyze data and produce manuscript
Project Outcomes
• At least one peer-reviewed publication
• Pilot data for individual sites and/or collaborative intervention research projects
Survey Content
• Measures paper can provide valuable guidance
• HPV Vaccine:– Knowledge, attitudes, acceptability– Perceived risk of cervical cancer– Perceived risk of HPV Vaccine use– Intention to use, actual use– Exposure to and content of health education and media
messages– Utilization barriers and facilitators– Types of intervention possibilities– Demographics
SampleN=50-60 per site, approx• Age groups:
– Parents of eligible children– 18-25 year old females– 26-45 year old females?– Males??
• Language groups:– English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean,
Cambodian, Vietnamese, South Asian languages, Armenian, Arabic, etc
• Urban, rural, suburban
About 50+ Interviews Per Site:
– Each site could target groups they are already working with
– HPV questions could be added to ongoing surveys
– Designate core Qs + optional set– Allow some variation in exact wording, keep
consistent response categories– Cognitive testing is usual and necessary part of
fielding survey, so there is possibility for synergies with cognitive testing project

CPCRN Activities Related to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine
What would we like to accomplish in this session?
1. Brief updates on ongoing activities
2. Priority setting, based on interests and strengths of the group and practical considerations
•have only about one year to complete any project we undertake
•there is no additional funding for any project we undertake•therefore, not all sites may be able to participate•overall, we can probably accomplish more as a network if we undertake 2-3 projects with the involvement of 2-4 sites in each
