Product architectureInsight Remote Support leverages a distributed architecture that is divided into two types of systems: HostingDevice andMonitored Device.
l Hosting Device: This is aWindows ProLiant server orWindows virtual guest on a VMware, Citrix orHyper-V virtual machine that hosts the Insight Remote Support application and initiates all central remotesupport operations. This includes the collection of events and configuration information from themonitored

Overview
devices, and transmission of this information securely to HPE for fast and effective problem resolution.
l Monitored Device: These are the supported hardware devices that aremonitored for hardware events andfrom which configuration information is collected. The events and collections are gathered by the InsightRemote Support application on the Hosting Device and then securely transferred to HPE. Response fromHPE or your preferred HPE Authorized Channel Partner will be delivered in line with the warranty orcontractual support agreement purchased for the device reporting a failure.
What is a service eventInsight RS monitors a customer’s hardware environment for service events that require action from theService Provider (HPE Channel Partner and/or HPE services team) or customer. For themost part, actionable service events require replacing a failed Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) or Customer ReplaceableUnit (CRU) in themonitored hardware. Non-actionable events are filtered out, and actionable service eventsare forwarded to HPE. Insight RS monitors hardware for hard failures from amajor component on thehardware such as CPU, disk, memory, and power supply, and these will trigger a service eventcommunication to HPE. In addition, Insight RS monitors hardware for soft errors, and in some instances, when the number of soft errors exceeds a specific threshold, an event is sent to HPE. Local only events suchas power failures, which are non-actionable by HPE, may also appear in the Insight RS Console so thatcustomers can resolve the issue. Further details regarding what classifies as an actionable service event isHPE confidential information.
What access level is requiredYoumust have administrative rights to Microsoft Windows on the Hosting Device to install and configureInsight RS. For more information, see "Access requirements" on page 25.
After installation you can configure Insight RS to use Active Directory for access if desired. For moreinformation, see theHPE Insight Remote Support Installation and Configuration Guide.
Important: The rsadmin command is a powerful tool that can be used tomanage the Insight RSapplication. The rsadmin command is executable by any local users on the Hosting Device. HPErecommends that you restrict access to the Hosting Device to only authorized users to preventunwanted changes to the Insight RS configuration on the Hosting Device.
Important: Insight RS requires administrator access to themonitored devices. Discovery andcollections require privileged access in order to retrieve information about themonitored devices.
Product supportIt is always advisable that you read the Insight Remote Support Installation and Configuration Guide beforeinstallation. This document is designed to help and guide you through a successful installation andconfiguration. HPE Insight Remote Support 7.8: Release Notes Page 14 of 88
Overview
Installation process and prerequisitesInstallation management and software updatesThe latest Insight Remote Support software is always available for download from HPE Software Depot. Allsubsequent updates will continue to bemanaged as you have defined during installation, but can be alteredthrough theAdministrator Settings→ Software Updates page. HPE always recommends installing thelatest software available by enabling theAutomatically Download and Install option from the AutomaticUpdate Level drop-down list to benefit from the latest features and product support.
Content Level UpdatesInsight Remote Support 7.8 includes a feature to be able to introduce new product support and new intelligentanalysis rules on a regular basis. These updates, where just these capabilities are updated, are known asContent Level Updates and aremade available through theAdministrator Settings→ Software Updatespage. The CLU package is not amandatory update. Only apply the CLU package if you need support for thedevices listed for the CLU release in "What is new with Insight Remote Support 7.8" on page 10.
Content Level Updates (CLUs) are provided as additional content to a current release and are alwaysincorporated into the next release. If available, Content Level Updates are automatically applied to a newinstallation of a release and when two or several subsequent CLUs aremade available, the latest version willautomatically include any of the previous Content Level Updates.
If you have your Automatic Update Level set toAutomatically Download and Install, the CLU update willinstall without intervention. If you do not have theAutomatically Download and Install Automatic UpdateLevel set, you will have tomanually apply the CLU update.
Application PatchKnown issues are addressed with an Application Patch to a current release when required via the embeddedsoftwaremanagement capability. These updates are also incorporated into the next release of Insight RemoteSupport.
Manual Software UpdatesInsight Remote Support 7.8 offers optional manual software updates. This is applicable for customers, whohave very specific requirements for controlling the source of any software in a production environment, it ispossible to download and store a particular version of Insight Remote Support and disable the automaticsoftware updates.
Important: HPE strongly recommends that manual software updates are not enabled for anycustomer who does not have a legal or strong audit requirement to do so, since updates enable HPEto automatically supply new software components that contain new product support, improvedcapabilities and fixes for any known issues including security. Also, manual software updates tothese systems will require a re-installation of a new Software Depot image of all the components(configuration details are retained) rather than just accepting the new softwaremade availablethrough the embedded softwaremanagement capabilities.
Patch and Content Level Update versions of Insight Remote Support are notmade available for download andinstall from HPE Software Depot. The intermediate updates that address known issues (Application Patch)and that add new device coverage (Content Level Updates) are only made available via the embedded

HPE Insight Remote Support 7.8: Release Notes Page 17 of 88
Installation process and prerequisites
Hosting Device prerequisitesThe Insight Remote Support software requires that the Hosting Device is an HPE ProLiant server runningMicrosoft Windows, to allow themonitoring of itself, since this device is critical for themanagement andmonitoring of your whole IT infrastructure. The Hosting Device can also be installed in aWindows virtualguest on a VMware, Citrix or Hyper-V virtual machine on a supported HPE ProLiant server.
In addition, the Hosting Device needs tomonitor itself for potential problems. This requires the installation andconfiguration of the appropriate HPE Insight Management Agents or HPE Insight Management WBEMProvider. Refer to the "HPE ProLiant G7 and earlier servers" on page 36 section for more details.
Although it is not mandatory, HPE strongly recommends that the Insight Remote Support Hosting Device iscovered by a valid warranty or HPE support contract obligation. The Hosting Device is a critical component ofthis solution so keeping it in a healthy condition is of prime importance to ensure effectivemonitoring.
The Hosting Device canmonitor amaximum of 3,500 devices (see "Number of Monitored Devices supported" on page 20). Tomonitor more than 3,500 devices, you can set upmultiple Hosting Devices in yourenvironment. However, to avoid duplicate reporting of events and data, make sure you do notmonitor thesame device by multiple Hosting Devices.
Operating system and hardwaremodel support are specific to the Hosting Device as follows.
Supported Hosting Device hardwareHPE Insight Remote support is supported only on HPE ProLiant servers:
l For up to 2,500 devices, any HPE ProLiant G4 or above (x64 system) with at least 4 CPU cores and withInsight Management Agent orWBEM Provider support
l For 2,500 to 3,500 devices, any HPE ProLiant G7 or above (x64 system) with at least 4 CPU cores andwith Insight Management Agent orWBEM Provider support
Refer to the "HPE ProLiant G7 and earlier servers" on page 36 section below for more details of InsightManagement Agent orWBEM Provider support.
Note that ProLiant Gen8MicroServers are supported as Hosting Devices.
Important: iLO port sharing is not supported on a ProLiant Gen8/Gen9 Hosting Device.
Important: ProLiant 100 Series servers, with the exception of the ProLiant G6 1x0 Series servers, are not supported as a Hosting Device to host Insight Remote Support since they do not offer adiagnostic agent to monitor themselves.
ProLiant 1x5 series servers are not supported as they do not have any diagnostic agent support tomonitor themselves.
Minimum and recommended Hosting DevicespecificationsThe Hosting Device should be aMicrosoft Windows ProLiant server that meets the following specifications inorder to ensure that it performs and is available at a high level.
HPE Insight Remote Support 7.8: Release Notes Page 18 of 88
Hosting Device prerequisites
A large variety of Microsoft Windows ProLiant servers can be used as a Hosting Device for this purpose, dependent on the size of monitored andmanaged environment.
This section provides guidance that wouldmake any particularWindows ProLiant model and configurationsuitable or not beyond the operating systems and hardware platforms described above.
The section below provides some examples of Hosting Device server specifications compared to the numberof devices that are required to bemonitored. The specification can be affected by a number of factors:
l The type and power of theWindows ProLiant server selected
l The number of devices monitored andmanaged
l If the Hosting Device is also being used for other optional management applications (e.g. SIM)
l Any application sharing the sameHosting Device
Hence, it is not possible to give exact advice on which specification will be required. If performancedegradation is observed, it is likely that the server may need to be compared to the followingrecommendations outlined below.
If problems are being encountered, you will be required tomeet theminimum requirements in order to gainHPE support. Not meeting theminimum specification can cause the solution not to load, to stop or to havesignificant performance degradation.
The following tables outline theminimum and recommended Hosting Device specifications based on theresults of HPE's quality assurance and performance testing for specific environments.
Since a large variety of Windows ProLiant servers can be used as a Hosting Device and processor speedalone does not indicate the power of a server, the following sizings are examples of recommendedconfigurations according to the size of themonitored environment.
Memory Size Free Disk Space
Up to 500 devices Minimum 8 GB for new installations
Recommended 8 GB, 12 GB if usingSIM
2 GB during a new full installation
24 GB for operation1
Up to 2,500devices
Minimum 12 GB for new installations
Recommended 16 GB, 20 GB if usingSIM
2 GB during a new full installation
64 GB for operation1
Up to 3,500devices
Minimum 16 GB for new installations
Recommended 20 GB, 24 GB if usingSIM
2 GB during a new full installation
300 GB for operation (must be at least 150 GBfree)1
Table 3.4 Hosting Device sizing requirements based on number of managed devices
1 The disk space requirements are affected by the number and type of devices if collections are configured(collections are enabled by default, are strongly recommended and in some cases a requirement of the contracttype). Please see the Configuration Collection capabilities section below for details.
For larger number of devices, it is recommended during installation to configure the destination folder for thedatabase and log files to be on different volumes to increase the performance of the application. See theInsight Remote Support Installation and Configuration Guide atwww.hpe.com/info/insightremotesupport/docs for details.
HPE Insight Remote Support 7.8: Release Notes Page 19 of 88
Hosting Device prerequisites
Important: If you are installing or retaining HPE Systems Insight Manager on the sameHostingDevice, then the extra resources and requirements needed for this application should be addedaccordingly. See theHPE Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide forWindows at www.hpe.com/info/insightmanagement/docs for details.
Number of Monitored Devices supportedThis solution has been optimized to support up to 3,500monitored devices per Hosting Device. If you need tomanagemore devices then HPE strongly recommends that you leveragemultiple Insight Remote Supportinstallations, either onmultiple physical servers or installed on its own supported virtual machine.
Normally, each physical device counts as onewhen calculating the overall maximum device number, e.g. aProLiant server and its ILO 4 only count as a single device. However, there are some exceptions that need tobe taken into account as listed below. The device count is based on the frequency and size of collections, andthe Hosting Device resources required to gather the collections for the device type.
l HPE ProLiant Gen8 and later servers using the embedded iLO 4 capabilities when AHS collections areturned on, count as 5 devices (without AHS collections, each server counts as one device)
l Each networking switch counts as 4 devices
l Each HPE StoreVirtual 4xxx Storage Node counts as 30 devices
l Each HPE StoreAll Network Storage System counts as 4 devices
l Each Tape Library counts as 4 devices
l Each HPE P2000/MSA device counts as 4 devices
l Each HPE P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array counts as 8 devices
l Each VMware® vCenter™ server installation counts as 4 devices
l Any device that is configured as part of a SAN collection, adds an additional count of 4 devices
Configuration Collection capabilitiesInsight Remote Support 7.8 has the ability to collect configuration information from your monitored devicesmanaged centrally from the Hosting Device.
These services are initiated when the devices register and further collections are automatically scheduled bydefault. These configuration collections enable the following:
l HPE Support to provide improved technical support.
l Data collections provide HPE (or your nominated HPE Authorized Channel Partner) with information on themonitoring health of each of your devices. This is displayed in Insight Online if you have chosen this option.
l Certain HPE Proactive services have amandatory requirement for remote support monitoring andcollections enabled on all devices for the customer to receive all the features and service deliverablesprovided under the service. This means HPE is not obligated to provide delivery of proactive entitlementsfor disabled collections for these devices until such time as the remote support monitoring & collectionfunctionality is restored.
l Optionally, if during installation or subsequently you have requested HPE or your preferred HPE AuthorizedChanel Partner to provide recommendations that may improve your environment.

Important: Dependent on the collection type, additional disk space needs to be allocated to allowconfiguration collections to operate correctly. Note, all collections have a number that are retainedfor historic records. Additionally, collections are compressed by a ratio of ten to onewhen they areretained but consideration for disk space should be given if multiple collections are run at the sametime. The only exception is Active Health System (AHS) Collections that are not compressed. Please see "Collection types and disk space requirements" below for details on how to calculate therequired disk space.

HPE ProLiant G7 and earlier serversThe following HPE ProLiant servers and their attached devices includingModular Smart Arrays (MSA) aresupported when HPE Insight Management (IM) Agents revision 7.1 or higher or HPE Insight ManagementWBEM Providers revision 2.3.0.0 or higher are installed on these servers. It is strongly recommended that youupgrade to the latest SNMP Agent andWBEM Provider versions as somemodels are only supported with alater version.
Note: Not all ProLiant models are supported by theWBEM (WMI) providers. Refer to the providersupported product list to determine whether your model is supported; if it is not, use SNMP. TheService Pack for ProLiant (SPP) is a software bundle that includes drivers, utilities, andmanagement agents for ProLiant device(s). Themost current version is also available at:www.hpe.com/info/SPP/download. See theService Pack for ProLiant Server Support Guide atwww.hpe.com/info/spp/docs for specific server andmanagement agent support.
Important: HPE only provides limited remote support for customers using HPE ProLiant serversprior to generation 4. As with standard support, Insight Remote Support version 7.x will attempt todiscover these products as remotely monitored HPE products and send information about failureevents to HPE. However, if there are issues with the operation of the remotemonitoring features ofInsight Remote Support version 7.x for these specific products, including the remote discovery orthe reporting of failure events to HPE, then HPE will resolve such issues in a commerciallyreasonablemanner but without guarantee of an immediate response or a resolution. If a failure eventis successfully received at HPE, it is managed according to the support level agreement.
Important: HPE ProLiant 1x5 series servers are not supported as they do not have any supporteddiagnostic agent.
Note: Insight RS supports iLO Shared Network Port and NIC Teaming. NIC Teaming supportrequires iLO 3 firmware version 1.70 or greater.

HPE BladeSystem EnclosuresInsight Remote Support monitoring is limited to the Enclosure and theOnboard Administrator (OA). Monitoringof the devices within the Enclosure requires the additional steps of discovery and configuration of thosedevices to bemonitored.
Note: HPE BladeSystem c-Class interconnect modules (Virtual Connect, Ethernet, Fibre Channel,InfiniBand and SAS interconnects) will automatically bemonitored via the OA management module,if it is configured for monitoring.
HPE BladeSystem c-Class Enclosures can bemonitored using the embeddedmanagement capabilities in theOA or by configuring SNMP in the OA depending on theOA firmware level:
Important: Do not attempt to configure both configurationmethods as this is not supported andmonitoring will not work correctly.
1. OA firmware level 3.60 or above: Register with an Insight Remote Support 7.8 Hosting Device throughtheOA to send service events to the Hosting Device for both the primary and standby OA.
Important: To address third-party software vulnerabilities, HPE recommends using OA 4.30 or later. Toaccess the OA 4.30 or later web interface, youmust enable TLS in your browser. TLS is the successor toSecure Sockets Layer (SSL).
2. OA firmware level prior to 3.55: If you have configured a primary and standby OA in your environment, you should configure theSNMP protocol to send traps to the Hosting Device. Discovery from the InsightRemote Support Hosting Device should be limited to one of the OAs and not both.
Note: If using OA firmware versions 3.55 or 3.56 HPE recommends you upgrade to version 3.60.
The latest firmware software can be found on the HPE website at: www.hpe.com/support/oa.

Insight RS also supports NonStop System Console (NSC) and Virtual Tape Controllers (VTC) for NonStopsystems.
For more details on how to install and configure Insight RS for use in a NonStop environment, see the InsightRemote Support for NonStop document available at www.hpe.com/info/nonstop-serviceinfo.
NonStop Hosting Device hardware requirementsFor a NonStop System console (NSC) to be used as a Hosting Device for Insight Remote Support, it mustmeet theminimum hardware and software requirements for a Hosting Device. This option is ideal if you areonly monitoring your NonStop system.
If customers want to monitor their entire environment, HPE recommends that NonStop customers use adedicated Hosting Device so that they canmonitor all of their servers, storage, SAN and network devicesalong with their NonStop servers. In this situation HPE does not recommend the use of the NonStop Console(NSC) as a Hosting Device because the NSC resides on a dedicatedmaintenance LAN environment.
Please contact your HPE Account team to setup remotemonitoring for your NonStop server systems.

Note: TheML110G5 is supported as a Hosting Device only when also used as a NonStop Systemconsole (NSC). While theML110G5 can be used simultaneously as both an NSC and a HostingDevice for Insight RS, it does not provide the self-diagnosis capabilities that are characteristic ofother Hosting Devices supported by Insight RS.
HPE AlphaServer systemsHPE only provides limited remote support for customers using HPE AlphaServers. As with standard support,Insight Remote Support version 7.x will attempt to discover these products as remotely monitored HPEproducts and send information about failure events to HPE.
However, if there are issues with the operation of the remotemonitoring features of Insight Remote Supportversion 7.x for these specific products, including the remote discovery or the reporting of failure events toHPE, then HPE will resolve such issues in a commercially reasonablemanner but without guarantee of animmediate response or a resolution. If a failure event is successfully received at HPE, it is managedaccording to the support level agreement.
The following HPE AlphaServer systems have this limited support:

Non-HPE serversInsight Remote Support provides remotemonitoring support for select non-HPE servers with a HPEmultivendor support or HPE Integrated Support Management services contract.
Monitoring support for non-HPE servers requires special attention to server entitlement data. The serial andproduct numbers that are discovered usually do not match the serial and product number listed in the HPEsupport contract. For a detailed description of how to configure remotemonitoring for your eligible non-HPEservers through Insight Remote Support 7.x, please contact your HPE Account Support team to setup thecustomization for your delivery.
The following selected non-HPE servers are supported:

HPE StorageInsight RS supports monitoring and collections for the following HPE Storage products.
Important: Insight RS requires administrator access to themonitored devices. Discovery andcollections require privileged access in order to retrieve information about themonitored devices.
HPE P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array systemsMake sure that the Event LogMonitoring Collector (ELMC) is installed on all StorageManagement Servers(SMS) where HP P6000 Command View is installed. ELMC is made available through the Insight RSSoftware Updates feature and needs to bemanually installed on the SMS. This does not apply to EVAs usingthe Array BasedManagement (ABM)module. See "Event LogMonitoring Collector" on page 88 for details onELMC.
Important: For all P6000/EVA devices, Insight RS supports HP P6000 Command View 9.4through 10.3.x.

HPE StoreVirtual storage (formerly P4000 SANSolutions/LeftHand storage)SNMP needs to be configured and enabled for each Storage Node to be able to send events to the HostingDevice. SNMP is enabled by default in HPE LeftHandOS (formerly SAN/iQ) and should not bemodified.
Each Storage Node counts as 30monitored devices within Insight Remote Support. Ensure that you allocateenough disk space for HPE StoreVirtual (P4000) collections. The required disk space is dependent on thenumber of HPE StoreVirtual Storage Nodes. See the "Configuration Collection capabilities" on page 20section above for calculating the required disk space.
For details and future updates to supported platforms, see theHPE StoreVirtual 4000 Storage CompatibilityMatrix available at www.hpe.com/info/StoreVirtualcompatibility.

Management platform integrationHPE Systems Insight ManagerInsight Remote Support 7.8 offers the ability to synchronize service incidents with Systems Insight Manager(SIM) 7.2.2 through 7.6. This is enabled by configuring this option in the Integration Adaptersmenu.
This option only supports SIM being installed on the sameHosting Device. If SIM is installed on the HostingDevice before installing Insight Remote Support, then the HPE SIM Adapter is automatically installed. If SIMwas installed after installing Insight Remote Support, then the HPE SIM Adapter needs to bemanuallyinstalled. For details, see theHPE Insight Remote Support Installation and Configuration Guide atwww.hpe.com/info/insightremotesupport/docs.
Important: SIM and Insight RS support different versions of theMicrosoft Windows operatingsystem. If you intend to synchronize Insight RS with SIM, make sure the Hosting Device operatingsystem is supported by both SIM and Insight RS. For SIM operating system support, see theHPEInsight Management Support Matrix at http://www.hpe.com/info/insightmanagement/docs.
Whenever there is a change in the status of a service incident, the new incident status is also updated in SIM.Themost important incident status changes are the creation and assignment of a case (ticket) in HPE'sservice workflow and the closure of the incident once it is completed.
When a case is opened at HPE, the case ID is appended to the SIM event. This means that customer's ITsupport personnel can provide the case ID whenever they want to communicate with HPE.
When configuring this option, you will be able to specify various synchronization options that will allowchanges made in SIM to be automatically reflected in Insight Remote Support. For details, please see theHPE Insight Remote Support Installation and Configuration Guide atwww.hpe.com/info/insightremotesupport/docs.
HPE recommends that you always upgrade to the latest supported SIM version and its components. See"Insight RS 7.8 and SIM compatibility support matrix" below for supported SIM versions:

Issues and suggested actionsChrome browser version 53.0.2785.116 JavaScripterrorsChrome browser version 53.0.2785.116 displays JavaScript errors in the ChromeDeveloper Tools consolewhen using the Insight RS Console. These errors do not affect the Insight RS functionality. This behavior iscorrected in the later Chrome versions.
If you see these errors, HPE recommends you upgrade your Chrome browser.
HPE ProLiant Gen8 servers are displayed by theirserial numberThe HPE ProLiant Gen8 server device namemay be displayed as a serial number (indicated by an S/N prefix)in the Insight RS Console in theSystem Name column. This will happen if remote support for the server isenabled while the server's operating system is not running or the Agentless Management Service (AMS) is notinstalled and enabled. To enable the IP address to be displayed instead of the serial number, the followingsteps can be taken:
l Before registering for Insight Remote Support via the iLO 4, or before initiating the discovery of the HPEProLiant Gen8 server's iLO 4 from the Insight RS console:l Ensure that theminimum supported firmware version (1.10 or later) is installed to register Insight RSthrough the iLO 4
l Ensure that the Agentless Management Service (AMS) is enabled, and the operating system is running
l Ensure that the Remote Insight Board Common Language Protocol (RIBCL) credentials for the serverare entered in the Insight RS Console
l If you have already successfully registered or discovered the HPE ProLiant Gen8 server in Insight RS:l Ensure that the Agentless Management Service (AMS) is enabled, and the operating system is running
l Ensure that the Remote Insight Board Common Language Protocol (RIBCL) credentials for the serverare entered in the Insight RS Console
l Click on the serial number in the System Name column and then choose Discover Device. The re-discovery of the device will result in the IP address being displayed.
HPE Authorized Channel Partner default settingsmay not be retainedThe default HPE Authorized Channel PartnerProvider ID, if entered in the Hosting Device SetupWizard, maynot be retained in this version. Issues and suggested actions
Service events display an incorrect timestamp inthe Insight RS ConsoleWhen viewing events and collections in the HPE Insight RS Console using a web browser, then any timedisplayed will convert to the time zone set in that browser. This is to ensure that the user can see the eventtiming using their local time zone. If there are discrepancies between the event time and the event processedtime, then you should check the time and time zone setting on themonitored device. If this is being setexternally from a time server or via DHCP, make sure that these are correctly connected and set to theappropriate time. Note, even if this issue is seen, it will not affect the efficient delivery of service by HPE or anHPE Authorized Service Partner as the Hosting Device time is used as a reference for service delivery.
A device appears without a discovery taking placeIf a customer configures an SNMP diagnostic agent on amonitored device with the trap destination set to theInsight RS Hosting Device, it is assumed that the intention is to have this devicemonitored. Hence, if thisdevice sends an SNMP trap to the Hosting Device, it will automatically initiate a discovery.
Note, that default credentials are applied and you should check tomake sure that event monitoring andconfiguration collections are working correctly for this device.
Another way that a device can be discovered without Hosting Device initiation is if a customer registers anHPE ProLiant Gen8 or Gen9 server for remotemonitoring through its iL0 4 registration process.
Unexpected device discoveryA larger group of devices can be discovered in the following situations:
l When discovery settings are setup, a larger range of devices specified than expected.
l When Insight RS 7.8 is installed on a server that uses the same IP address as the previous server InsightRS was installed on. This happens whenmonitored devices in the IT environment still have the SNMP trapdestination orWMI/WBEM subscription in place that sends events to that IP address. When these eventsare sent, this will trigger a discovery and that device will appear in the Insight RS Console.
Suggested action: Delete or disable the devices that you don't want Insight RS to monitor.
Duplicate records created in Insight Online whenthe same device is discovered twiceTwo records can be created in HPE Insight Online for a device in the following scenarios:
l Scenario 1: A device is partially discovered by Insight RS, detecting OS and network information, but noserial number or product number information. When discovered again, full information is discovered.
l Scenario 2: A device has SNMP trap forwarding set to the Hosting Device and the device was notdiscovered by Insight RS prior to receiving the event.
Suggested action: Duplicate records cannot be removed at this time.

Issues and suggested actions
Multiple location ID and partner configuredIn a small percentage of cases, HPE can storemore than one partner location ID for the same partner user inour backend system.
Inmost cases, if you are a partner user, you can determine your partner location ID by logging in to the HPEGlobal Partner portal. The location ID you see in the top left hand corner of the screen is your location ID. Ifafter installing Insight Remote Support using this location ID you are not able to see theMy Customer tab inInsight Online, then HPE Support can help you determine the correct location ID to use.
Suggested action: Contact HPE Support to determine which partner location ID is active in Insight Online/InsightRS. Case information will be sent to the service provider listed in Insight RS for the customer. The Insight Online My Customer system will display the correct data for the partner if thepartner uses the login verified by HPE Support.
Unhealthy Monitoring & Collections even whenprotocols are setup correctlyWhen Insight RS 7.8 is configured to work with SIM, Insight RS detects all of themonitored device protocolsthat SIM has detected. An issue can occur when these protocols are not installed or configured correctly onthe device or the protocols are not valid for use with Insight RS. In these cases, Insight RS displays a failed orunhealthy status in theMonitoring & Collections section of the Insight RS Console, even though the protocolsare not being used by Insight RS.
Suggested action: To work around this issue, do not select the Automatically sync new/deleted credentialsfrom HPE SIM check box in the HPE SIM Adapter.
Service Events are not displayed on the SIM AllHPE Service Events pageWhen the HPE SIM Adapter is installed, you have the ability to forward service events from Insight RS toSIM. When both SIM and Insight RS are installed on the sameHosting Device and SIM is upgraded, noservice events are displayed on the SIM All HPE Service Events page. The cause of this is the XML file thatcontrols the query to display events on the SIM All HPE Service Events page is corrupted because SIMoverwrites the XML file that Insight RS installs.
Suggested action: Use the Insight RS Software Updates to uninstall and then reinstall the HPE SIM Adapter. Ifthe HPE SIM Adapter is at the latest available version, a complete uninstall and reinstall willresolve the issue. If the HPE SIM Adapter is not at the latest available version, a simpleupgrade will resolve the issue.

Issues and suggested actions
l You cannot log on to the Insight RS Console with user MYDOMAIN\myusername and,
l MYDOMAIN\myusername is a member of the group MYDOMAIN\specialusers.
l MYDOMAIN\specialusers has been added to the MYDOMAIN\Administrators group.
l User Account Control (UAC) is turned on.
Suggested action: To work around this issue, any of the following actions enable you to log on as anAdministrator:
l Turn off User Account Control (UAC) on the Hosting Device
l Add your user account to a local Administrators group on the Hosting Device. Forexample, add MYDOMAIN\myusername to the local HostingDevice\Administratorsgroup
l Add your user account directly to the domain Administrators group. For example, addMYDOMAIN\myusername to the MYDOMAIN\Administrators group directly.
l Create a new local Administrators account and use that to log on to the Hosting Device. For example, create an Administrative account named HostingDevice\AdminAccountand log on with that.

WMI Mapper fails to startWhenWMI Mapper is installed on aWindows 2008 R2Hosting Device, theWMI Mapper servicemay fail tostart with the "NT SERVICE\MAPPER" user and theWMI Mapper Indications servicemight fail to start withthe "NT SERVICE\WbemConsumer" user. This occurs on aWindows 2008 R2Hosting Device that is part ofa domain whose security policy is being controlled by a domain controller, in which the above two users arenot given the log on as service right.
TheWMI Mapper andWMI Mapper Indications services fail to start and while trying to start these servicesfrom the services.msc console, the following error appears:
Windows could not start the Pegasus WMI Mapper service on Local Computer. Error 1069: Theservice did not start due to a logon failure.
A more detailed error is also listed in the Systems Logs of theWindows Event Viewer.
The problem occurs because inWindows 2008 R2, Mapper andMapper Indications Services are started withusers having lower privileges. By default a standaloneWindows 2008 R2 server will have these users with thesaid privileges. However in the case of a server whose security policies are controlled by a domain controller, these users might be removed from the default set of users and hence the services will not start.
You can choose to follow any one of the below workarounds based on your requirements:
l You change theMapper andMapper Indications Service to start with a privileged user account such as the“localSystem” account. This can bemade by editing the properties of each of the services using theservices.msc console.
l You can choose to give the following two users “NT SERVICE\WMI Mapper” and “NTSERVICE\WbemConsumer” the “log on as a service” right using the “User Rights Assignment” option inthe Security Policy Editor (secpol.msc).
HPRSMAIN service shutdown errorWhen the HPRSMAIN service needs to be stopped or restarted, such as during an Insight RS upgrade orpatch install, the following error may appear during shutdown: "Error 1053: The service did notrespond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
The issue occurs when the system load is high, due to non-Insight RS processes for example, and thiscauses Insight RS to exceed theMicrosoft Windows process shutdown timeout threshold.

Port adjustments neededTCP/IP port 7905 needs to be opened for Insight RS 7.x to communicate with monitored devices that useWBEM/WMI.
Insight RSS and RSA use TCP/IP port 7906 to communicate from themonitored devices to the HostingDevice/Central Management Server. Insight RS 7.x now uses port 7906 for the Insight RS Console and whenusing the Onboard Administrator and HPE ProLiant Gen8 or Gen9 iLO 4 embedded Insight Remote Supportcapabilities.
Insight RS 7.x uses port 7905 to communicate with monitored devices that useWBEM/WMI, such as HP-UX, Linux andWindows servers. If you secured port 7905 when using Insight RSS or RSA, youmust nowmake sure TCP/IP port 7905 is open on your monitored devices, the Hosting Device and any firewallsbetween the two. For more information about specific port settings, see theHPE Insight RS Security WhitePaper.
Upgrading from previous versions of 7.xUpgrading by uninstalling a previous version of Insight RS 7.x and then installing the latest version is not asupportedmethod to upgrade Insight RS. When the 7.x software is uninstalled, residual data is left behind incase the same version is going to be re-installed, andmismatches in this data can cause Insight RS to shutdown some processes. Upgrade using one of the supportedmethods provided in the Insight Remote SupportUpgradeGuide available at www.hpe.com/info/insightremotesupport/docs.

Appendix A: Updating existing Insight RS installations
Appendix B: Event Log Monitoring CollectorThe Event LogMonitoring Collector (ELMC) provides error condition detection of the event log of specificmonitored endpoint system and communicates these events to Insight Remote Support for analysis.
The ELMC software is made available on the Hosting Device by downloading it from theAdministrators→Software Updates page. The device specific ELMC versions will bemade available in the download folder onthe Hosting Device:
%HP_RS_DATA%\SWM\LANDINGZONE\ELMC
This folder defaults to C:\ProgramData\HP\RS\DATA\SWM\LANDINGZONE\ELMC. This is a hidden folder, so youmay need to set your folder options to show hidden folders.
The appropriate ELMC software should be distributed and installed on themonitored device. Note that whentheSoftware Updates page shows a status of Installed, this only means that the ELMC package has beeninstalled on the Hosting Device. Youmust still distribute and install ELMC on your monitored devices.
This includes ELMC versions for:
l HPE OpenVMS onHPE Integrity servers and AlphaServers
l VSI OpenVMS onHPE Integrity servers
