HOW TO APPLYInterested students should submit the following:
• Cover letter stating the student’s career goals and what he/she expects to gain from this program• Completed application form: https://okc.erdc.hpc.mil/csproxy/OKC/CrossCutting/EOTC/Website/InternApplication.pdf or http://www.hawaii.edu/hpc/InternApplication-v2.pdf or send a fax to (808) 956-5025 to request an application. (Acrobat™ is needed to view the application. To have Acrobat™ installed, visit www.adobe.com/acrobat to download the free software.)• Copy of the student’s transcript • At least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or university offi cial
The cover letter, application form, transcript, and letter of recommendation should be mailed or faxed to:
Susan T. Brown, Ph.D PET Program EOTC Lead University of Hawaii 2532 Correa Rd. Honolulu, HI 96822 Phone: (808) 956-2808 Fax: (808) 956-5025 Email: [email protected]
QUALIFICATIONSStudents applying for an intern position must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program while pursuing a degree in science, engineering, or mathematics at a university or college, then must be planning to continue their education in the fall. Interns should have, at minimum, completed their sophomore year by the beginning of the program, although exceptions can be made for outstanding students completing their freshman year. The number of students the HPCMP PET can accommodate is limited, and selections will be competitive based on the applicant’s qualifi cations and opportunities available at the host site. Interns must be U.S. citizens.
COMPENSATIONStudents will receive a salary, lodging, and transportation (mileage or air fare) to/from their work location at the beginning/end of the assignment. Salaries will depend on the student’s academic level and will range from $10.00 to $16.00 per hour. Students are expected to work 40 hours per week.
The PET initiative of the Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) announces its 2006 Summer Intern Program in High Performance Computing (HPC). This program’s goal is to encourage U.S. college students to consider careers in HPC research within DoD. Summer intern students will work with a DoD mentor and gain experience in one of many exciting areas, such as computational science, information technology, computer science, scientifi c visualization, and computer simulation. The Summer Intern Program is a 10-week appointment; dates vary per location.
PET also offers 2-week summer institutes primarily for undergraduate students at the Partner Minority Serving institutions. To fi nd out more, contact Dr. Brown ([email protected]).

LOCATIONSStudents may request an assignment at one of four DoD Major Shared Resource Centers:
WHAT IS HPCMP PET?The Programming Environment and Training (PET) activity is responsible for gathering and deploying the best ideas, algorithms, and software tools emerging from the national high performance computing infrastructure into the DoD user community. Additional information regarding PET training and projects can be found at https://okc.erdc.hpc.mil.
