Device updates are installed using HP Web Jetadmin install executable, which will re-releaseperiodically to provide new device support.

Known IssuesThe following list of known issues are items that are being addressed in HP Web Jetadmin 10.1software teams. Look for more information regarding fixes and product enhancements in futurereleases of HP Web Jetadmin by checking this document regularly or by using HP Subscriber'sChoice Alerts on hp.com.

1. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 and 10.2 are not collecting the correct page counts for the HP ColorLaserJet CP3525. It is anticipated this will be fixed in a follow-on Service Release.

2. Older HP printers, such as the HP LaserJet 4 series, may not have enough management objectsupport for HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 or 10.2 to be able to correctly distinguish device status. Insome cases, these printers may actually be discovered by the application but will always remainin Device Communication Error state within HP Web Jetadmin status. At this time, HP doesnot plan to address the issue.

3. When multiple firmware versions are loaded into HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 for a product, theFirmware tab's Recommended column shows Yes for more than one of the firmware versions. This happens if multiple firmware versions have been loaded into HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 for aselected printer. For a workaround, run the install twice or manually select the firmware to install.

NOTE: If you upgrade to HP Web Jetadmin 10.2, this issue will be resolved.

4. HP Web Jetadmin restricts the configuration of Company Name to 32 or less charactersdepending on the device model. A fix is expected in a future release.

5. All Devices list data appear representative of a newly discovered device on an old device. Oncethe new device is truly discovered, an old device will show new device data. At this time, this isexpected behavior. However, usability improvements are planned for a future release.

6. The Import/Export address book functionality does not closely match device EWS. A fix isexpected in a future release.

7. An HP Web Jetadmin client will not display localized text correctly when the workstationWindows installation is in one language and the desktop regional settings are in anotherlanguage. The usual behavior is that some text will display in one language while some text willdisplay in another language. At this time, HP is supporting localized clients when the desktopregional setting and the Windows install language are the same.

8. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 performance gains are realized through adding hardware memory, usingmultiprocessor hosts, using high performance storage systems. Performance is also impactedby background tasks such as discovery or other processor intensive operations. Check for activebackground processes by using the Active Tasks Task Module located in the Overview nodeon the navigation tree.

9. Supplies alerts are subscribed to and logged for devices for which the alerts are not supported. For example: drum kit, fuser kit, etc. may appear enabled for devices that don’t support thesetypes of supplies. This issue will be addressed in a future release of HP Web Jetadmin software.

10. The HP LaserJet 1505n does not support password objects that allow HP Web Jetadmin toconfirm user knowledge of passwords. Because of this, passwords are not supported on this HPmodel.

11. The configuration item Address Book Management (under Digital Sending) requires the firstline in an imported file to be a header. To workaround this issue, use Microsoft XP Professionalor a newer supported operating client system.

12. Third party devices that support the standard MIB item Supplies Colorant Table may have theirdevice supply detail represented in HP Web Jetadmin only if HP Web Jetadmin is able toprogrammatically determine supply names, types, levels, and so forth.

13. Some user preferences, window size, column size, and others may not be retained over areinstall or upgrade of this software.

14. Installing a signed certificate into Microsoft Windows Vista fails with error.

15. Devices can count Microsoft Windows test pages as color but these pages are tagged asmonochrome by the driver. This can cause a page count discrepancy between DeviceUtilization Reports and By User Reports.

16. Export XML and CSV Header compatibility with 8.x: HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 Device ListExporting feature uses non localized tag values within XML and CSV. In most cases, thesevalues are not be compatible with HP Web Jetadmin 8.1 and earlier releases of the software.

17. It is recommended to install localized .NET Framework to match the client workstation on whichHP Web Jetadmin 10.1 will be running.

18. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 is currently only supported with HP Universal Print Driver 4.5. HP WebJetadmin 10.1 is bundled with HP Universal Print Driver 4.5 Postscript. The PCL versions areinstallable via .INF install functionality with they are obtained from the HP driver download portalat hp.com.

19. System up time column is not sorting correctly. This will be fixed in a future release.

20. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Windows Vista is included in VistaService Pack 1 or, alternatively in .NET Framework 3.5. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 installer will linkyou to a Microsoft website that only shows the .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1redistributable for Microsoft Windows XP Professional and 2003 Server. Microsoft WindowsVista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone KB936330 should be referenced to find thisredistributable.

21. Deleting and blocking devices on a three-port HP Jetdirect EX print server results in differentserial numbers. Port 1 is blocked and the other two result in Error devices not found, but aresuccessfully removed from the All Device list. This issue will be fixed in a future release of thesoftware.

22. Discovery of HP Web Jetadmin server installation that was scheduled in HP Web Jetadmin 10.0will not be scheduled in HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 after a product update using the HP WebJetadmin 10.1 installer. There are HP Web Jetadmin 10.0 issues within the software that causethese items to be irretrievable by the update process. A fix will be put in place for this at somepoint in the future.

23. When migrating from HP Web Jetadmin 7.8/8.x, the Migration interface presented at first clientrun prompts for a password. If the user types the password incorrectly and then corrects it by are-prompt pop-up, the migration settings for Alerts and Reports data are bypassed. To recover, the user must uninstall HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 and then start the installer with theSettingsBundle.cab file anew. This is a known issue and will be addressed in a future release ofthe software.

24. Deleting devices with the Status tab enabled can cause a long delay for this task to complete. When deleting multiple devices, either navigate away from the Status tab or use the control toremove the tab functionality from the device list.

Sensitive Device InformationIn some cases, HP Web Jetadmin sends sensitive information to the device. This information caninclude user and password detail such as device Digital Send features or other device securityfeatures that require credentials. In this case HP Web Jetadmin is sending the information using theSSL/TLS protocol. This protocol allows HP Web Jetadmin to send encrypted information to the deviceand prevents clear-text information from being 'sniffed' through a network trace utility. Whencommunicating with the device through the SSL/TLS protocol, HP Web Jetadmin uses certificatesstored on the printer's HP Jetdirect network interface. These certificates can be self-signed or theycan be signed by a verifiable certificate authority. At this time, HP Web Jetadmin does not check theauthenticity of certificates stored on the device; it simply uses the certificate when communicatingwith the device through the SSL/TLS protocol. This security limitation could be exploited, allowing un-authorized individuals access to sensitive information like user and password detail. Administratorsshould keep this in mind when managing sensitive device information using HP Web Jetadminsoftware.
