How HP QuickTest Professional worksHP QuickTest Professional allows even novice testersto be productive in minutes. You can create testsusing the script-free Keyword View feature and simplydeclaring the test steps. QuickTest Professional alsolets you capture test steps via an integrated recordingcapability. The product documents each step in simplelanguage and displays an integrated screenshot viathe Active Screen feature.

Unlike traditional scripting tools that produce scriptsthat are difficult to modify, HP QuickTest Professionalskeyword-driven approach lets you easily insert, modify,data-drive, and remove test steps.

HP QuickTest Professional also addresses new appli-cation builds. When an application being testedchanges, such as renaming a Login button to Sign In,you only need to update one reference in an exten-sible markup language (XML)-based Shared ObjectRepository (within the Object Repository Managerfeature), and the update is propagated to all tests that

reference this object.

With HP QuickTest Professional you can provide localsystem monitoring by testing system performance mea-surements correlated to a business process, reportingon thresholds exceeded, and analyzing and tracingperformance errors to their root cause.

You can publish test scripts to HP Quality Center soft-ware, allowing other QA team members to reuse yourtest scripts and eliminating duplicate work.

Collaborate across workgroups.HP QuickTest Professional has been designed for tautomation collaboration among tester workgroupincludes technology for managing application deftions or objects in the Object Repository ManageBased on an open XML format, the Object ReposiManager lets HP QuickTest Professional users collaband share application object definitions. HP QuickProfessional keeps object-level changes synchronamong users throughout test creation efforts.

In addition, you can define object repositories befan application is available to QA. Users can also sfunction libraries, application asset definitions, adata-driven spreadsheets across workgroups.

With process guidance, you can embed a user guwithin HP QuickTest Professional and propagate bpractices with interactive help to walk users througthe activities and link them to the right applicationareas within the software. Maintenance run mode is designed for the productionphase where tests need to be maintained as the appli-cation changes. This execution mode lets you run testsand, instead of failing where an application haschanged, a pop-up wizard provides guidance on howto change the test real-time, the reason for failure, andchoices for how to address it. This feature reduces thetime required to analyze the test suite and identify editsbased on changes in the application.

The IDE contains numerous productivity enhancements,

including ease-of-use when reusing keywords withinthe same test, and providing access to meta test datasuch as test flow, actions, and test assets. Quick testpanes are available to make test asset informationmore visible and easier to access. Additional IDEenhancements include capabilities around intellisense,dynamic surroundings, and auto-complete as well ascustomizable toolbars.

Checkpoint Management allows you to utilize a singleuser interface to manage test checkpoints and outputobjects, as well as to share object repositories betweentests. You can also create your own bitmap com-parison algorithms and build them into HP QuickTestProfessional to be managed as a checkpoint.
