introduction
The Mobile Calculating Lab (MCL) is an affordable STEM classroom solution. Working alone or in groups, students can conduct hands-on math and science experiments that stream results in real time.
Real time data streaming enables students to connect concrete experiences directly to abstract math and science concepts. For example, using the microphone sensor in the MCL kit, students can see their sound waves displayed on the calculator screen as they speak into the microphone.
The MCL kit comes with an activity book, 39gs graphing calculator, Fourier StreamSmart 410, and several sensor probes for data collection. Data transmits from sensors through the SS410 and displays on the 39gs screen in wave form. You can zoom and pan to change the appearance of the graph or pause and select a section of data to export for analysis. Additional experiments and lesson plans are available for free on the Teacher Experience Exchange at http://h30411.www3.hp.com and on the Fourier webpage at www.fourierEDU.com.
Key Features and Benefits
Mobile: Students and teachers are not confined to a lab and can work in or outside the classroom.
Comprehensive: Everything you need to perform and analyze experiments, including an activity book for lesson planning, is included in the kit.
Teacher Support: Fourier provides its Multi-Lab Software with every MCL kit, so students can perform advanced data analysis on the computer. HP offers free calculator emulator software to teachers for on screen projection during lessons. Purchasing these tools separately for the competitors’ solution can increase total costs by up to 50%.
Affordable: Cost-effective kits allow students to work alone or in groups, without a PC. HP gives teachers access to free lesson planning materials, calculator emulators, and lab software. Once you purchase the MCL solution, there are no hidden costs.
Fast & Flexible: Fast data streaming allows for real-time analysis; zoom in or pan out, speed up or slow down—even while the experiment is running.
Easy Analysis: Zoom and scroll functions allow users to view and select desired data, then export for graphing, collection, and easy analysis.
Service and supportThe HP Mobile Calculating Lab carries a one-year limited warranty. Technical support is available during standard business hours.

The HP 39/40gs calculators take 4 AAA (LR03) batteries as a main power source and one CR2032 lithium battery for memory backup.
To install the main batteries:
1. Slide up the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert 4 new AAA (LR03) batteries into the main compartment.
3. Make sure each battery is inserted in the indicated direction.
To install the backup battery:
1. The lithium battery is located underneath the small square cover located above the AAA batteries.
2. Carefully remove the cover by sliding the tabs forward to align with the slots and gently lift the cover off.
3. Insert the CR2032 lithium battery with its positive polarity facing up.
4. Replace the back cover of the backup battery.
5. Replace the cover to the battery compartment.
6. Press ON to turn on the calculator.
warning! There is danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not mutilate, puncture, or dispose of batteries in fire. The batteries can burst or explode, releasing hazardous chemicals.
