Value of the RMC Network

• RMCs are interlinked throughout the U.S. to perform daily activities of the Institute for local and national opportunities and challenges

• Provide access to small, medium and large businesses by leveraging local relationships and directly engaging with the manufacturing community in each region

• Leverage the diversity and breadth of resources, expertise and capabilities within and across regions to create a powerful force of “on the ground” innovation, technology transfer, SM industry awareness, and workforce development

RMC Role in Roadmap Project Process

• Roadmap projects receive DOE funding• Represent the manufacturing sectors of the region to CESMII

• Inclusion in CESMII Technology Roadmap• Regional prioritization of sector needs• Idea inputs for Roadmap Project RFP’s


RMC Role in Application Project Process

• Application projects receive no DOE funding; funded by Member’s cost share• Develop and propose Application Projects in response to the CESMII Technology

Roadmap and call for proposals.• Manage Application Projects once awarded


Most Important RMC Role

• Ensure regional membership is engaged and presented with an opportunity to participate in the Institute and to execute their committed cost share

• Membership account management• Bi-weekly membership calls• Regional events• Affinity Groups


Affinity Groups

• A group of CESMII members with an interest in a particular manufacturing sector, a manufacturing problem within a sector, or a technology

• Can be regional, multi-regional, or national in scope• Examines the sector or problem strategically• Members bring their abilities, capabilities and interests to engage CESMII

Resources & Strategies as needed to address the sector or problem• A venue to provide collective inputs to CESMII Roadmap & Application

project calls• CESMII Members can participate in any Affinity Group within the Institute

Provides clear view into how the SM Portfolio is (or should be) structured on a sector-by-sector basis vs. a project-by-project basis

Allows CESMII to better align efforts to the Technology Roadmap and to track how the portfolio is evolving to meet member needs

Membership Renewal Plan• For the New Membership Model, all the CESMII Membership rights,

benefits, services, commercial terms have either remained the same or been improved

• Target renewal completion in Spring 2019• For the coming months, your existing Membership Agreement and

supporting documents are still in effect with the following caveats:• All references to Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition

(“SMLC”), will be replaced with UCLA in substance, form and legal effect

• All references to Smart Manufacturing Energy, LLC (“SME”) are null and void with no legal standing, relevance or effect

• Initial Renewal focus will be on the Roadmap project team leaders• In parallel, we will set up an informational webinar to review the

changes to the new Membership Agreement and supporting documents, and hold Q&A sessions
