With such a tremendously diverse and expansive workforce, Unilever is constantly looking for new ways to improve both the satisfaction and morale of its employees and the productivityand growth of the company.

Unilever wanted to be able to respond more quickly, innovatively, and responsibly to a talent economy which is increasingly more open and flexible. Unilever was set on a mission to find new ways of working to gain rapid access to the best skills and business ideas available both internally and externally while preparing its workers to meet and exceed the challenges of impending skills gap. The World Economic Forum projects that “35% of the skills demanded for jobs across all industries will change by 2020.” Rising to these challenges will enhance the company’s agility andresponsiveness to consumer needs and foster innovation.

The goal was to allow Unilever’s employees to push the boundaries of their careers by using an AI-powered platform to identify personalized open opportunities across the business, in real time. This will revolutionize how the company builds teams and develops employees’ skills and experiences at speed.

The SolutionGloat’s InnerMobility solution has helped Unilever launch an AI-powered internal talent marketplace.

It revolutionizes how the company builds teams and develops employees’ skills and experiences at speed, while bringing agility to placing the right people in the right place, at the right time.

Using InnerMobility’s AI-based two sided talent marketplace, project and hiring managers can post open roles, projects or gigs and are then presented with Unilever employees from an array of backgrounds whose skills and interests would be suited to the opportunity. Employees can update their profile, list their aspirations, and indicate areas of expertise in order to receive recommendations of new fixed and flexible opportunities within Unilever in one place.

By accessing the platform, Unilever employees can work on projects for a small or large proportion of time, increase the depth of their expertise of a current skill or build new skills and experiences. Through the power of AI, people are suggested opportunities that match their profile and aspirations, and at the same time, giving full visibility to all career opportunities available globally across all areas of the business, ultimately democratizing and giving transparency to the way the company recruits and develops talent.

As of June 2019, InnerMobility has been rolled out to more than 30,000 employees across 12 business areas in 90+ countries since first being trialled in 2018. The aim is to create a more open, democratized, fulfilling and holistic way of developing employees’ skills and careers.
