How to use the Digital Hub
Introduction The Hub is designed to be a central location for you to access all frequently used systems, guidance and
resources in one place. The hub hosts the Operating manual and all of its resources, and provides links to
external systems such as the Data collection system.
We hope that this will streamline processes for you, saving you time and making it easier to find the
information you need.
This PDF provides a guide to some of the features and pages on the hub. By navigating to
hub.foodbank.org.uk/how-to-use-the-hub/ you can also watch some introductory videos.

Homepage The homepage of the digital hub can be accessed via: http://hub.foodbank.org.uk/
When you first visit the hub, you will see a pop-up help box offering to walk you through the features of the
hub, which is where this PDF and the introductory videos will be stored for future reference.
At the top of the homepage, there is a link to any guidance we have issued during the coronavirus pandemic.

Available on the Hub As you scroll down, you will see that there is a block of tiles which take you to pages hosted on the digital
hub. When you click on one of these pages, you will be taken to a log in page where you will be asked to
enter a password. You will only need to enter this password once for each device that you access the hub
through. If you forget the password, please contact the Network Services team
Links to Other Platforms The next section on the homepage provides links to external websites and will take you outside of the hub.
To access these websites you click on a tile and enter your usual username and password. You will not be
automatically logged into these external websites unless you have saved your username and password to
the web browser on your device. We do not recommend you do this if you are using a shared device.

Menu and Help At the top of the page, there is a menu and search bar which can be used to navigate within the hub once
you have entered the password
At the bottom of each page, you will see the contact details for Network Services, who are here to help
should you need any support. This is also where you can access the hub introduction page and read the
Privacy Policy.

Navigation You can navigate to the Operating Manual either through the tile on the homepage or via the menu at the
top. The first time you do this, you will be asked to enter a password.

The Operating Manual provides comprehensive guidance explaining how to run and sustain a highly effective
food bank, ensuring that you are well equipped to help people in need in your community.

Categories in the Operating Manual The operating manual is split into three categories – governing your food bank, supporting your food bank
and running your food bank. Each category of the operating manual has sections and chapters, which you
can navigate to by expanding menu.
Chapter Page - Example At the top of each chapter, there is a link to the coronavirus resource page. Please bear in mind that the
information in each chapter of the operating manual is to be used under normal circumstances and won’t all
be relevant during the pandemic.
On each chapter page, there is a blurb which tells you what the chapter is about. Below this, you will find the
full chapter PDF.
PDF Toolbar and Navigation:
• Flick through the pages of the chapter using the arrows
• View in full screen mode by clicking the double headed cross arrows
• Print or download the chapter by selecting the relevant icon on the toolbar
• In full screen mode, if using a computer/laptop, zoom in and out using the wheel on your
mouse, and navigate around the document by dragging with your mouse
• Zoom in and out using the icons in the toolbar
• Alter your viewing settings by clicking on the settings gear to turn off sound effects and
view 1 page only.

Clicking the icon that looks like a bookmark on the toolbar will bring up thumbnails of each page
and allow you to search within the pdf. You can then click on the search results to navigate to the
relevant section of the PDF.

Chapter Resources Below the PDF on each chapter page, there is a table containing links to all the resources that are associated
with this chapter. When you click on one of these links, you will be taken to a specific resource page.
Feedback At the bottom of the page, there is an opportunity for you to tell us if you found the page and chapter
helpful. If you click no, you will be asked what you would like us to do to improve this page. Beneath the
feedback function, you can use the arrows to navigate to the previous and next chapter.

Resource Overview and Coronavirus
Resources http://hub.foodbank.org.uk/resources/
There are a vast number of resources and templates on the hub, designed specifically to help you govern,
support and run your food bank.
Using the menu at the top, you will be taken to a page which gives you the option to explore resources
which we have issued during the Coronavirus pandemic or to explore the Operating Manual Resources which
accompany chapters in the Operating Manual.
Coronavirus Resources The Coronavirus Resources are only intended to be used
during the pandemic, to help you respond to the crisis in an
efficient way, whilst also making sure you’re operating
safely.
On the Coronavirus Resource page there are links to our
latest FAQ document and the coronavirus resource index
which provides links to all the relevant resources and
guidance we have issued throughout the pandemic.
You can also access an archive of all the information we
have sent out in our dedicated Coronavirus Bulletin since
the start of June 2020.
At the bottom of the coronavirus resource page, have highlighted and provided links to the most critical
resources which have been issued during this period.

You can access the operating manual resources either via the tile on the homepage or by clicking on
‘Resources’ in the menu at the top and navigating to the operating manual resources page. If this is your first
time visiting the hub, you will need to enter a password.

‘Operating Manual Resources’:

Operating Manual Resource Table This webpage contains a table which lists and links to all the resources that accompany chapters in the
operating manual.
Tips to find the resource you are looking for:
• Use the search bar at the top to filter results by keywords. For example: “volunteering” or “trustee”
or even “2.3” to filter to a chapter or resource number containing the number 2.3.
• Display more items in the list by using the Show X entries filter.
• Sort the table by Title, Chapter or Date last Updated by clicking the column headings
• In the Chapter column, clicking on a particular chapter number and name will show only resources
from that chapter.
• Click the Reset button to show all resources.

Resource Page When you click on a specific resource, you will be taken to a page which shows the title of that resource, the
date it was last updated and has a side panel with links to all the other resources in the same chapter.
The resource is displayed on the page below the title. There is a button above the resource which allows you
to download and save the resource to your device, and you can then print or email this document to other
food bank colleagues.
You can scroll through the resource on whilst remaining on the page or view in full screen by clicking the
box/arrow icon. This will open the file in a new tab and give you the option to zoom in and out, print and
save to your google drive if you are logged into your google account.
