How to use Layers
Stephen Heywood
Firstly I opened Photoshop and accessed the two images I scanned. I arranged these images so they were both visible side by side. My next step was to set the ‘feathers’ tool to 4px to soften the
edges when using the ‘magnetic lasso’ tool.
This was used to outline and cut the area on the image so only the object I wanted was used. After I highlighted the object I wanted using the ‘magnetic lasso’, the area would then be
identified by ‘marching ants’.
The marching ants effect is an animation technique often found in selection tools. It helps to distinguish the selected border from the image background by animating the border. The border
is dashed line where the dashes seem to walk slowly.
I then used the ‘move tool’ to drag the object onto my second image. I then used the ‘free transform’ to rotate, scale up or down and to move around. My final image involves three images involved in one end product. I edited the bottom left image in the photo to make the crowd look faceless. I then cropped to
make it look smart and professional.
