How to shell a coconut!
You will need: 1 fresh coconut : screwdriver & hammer : fine mesh sieve : oven at 190ºC : potato peeler

Drain coconut water- Locate the 3
‘eyes’ of the coconut
- Puncture the coconut eyes using the screwdriver and hammer
- Strain coconut water into a bowl

Bake drained coconutBake coconut at 190ºC for 10-15 minutes -- this will help release the meat from the shell of the coconut.

Hit coconut along equator
- Find the coconut’s equator (marked with red in both photos above)
- Hit along equator with the hammer until the coconut splits (above right)

Pull coconut halves apart

Pull meat out of shell
- The meat should come out of the shell easily – but if not, turn the half shell side up and continue hitting with the hammer until the meat is released
