Chapter 1- Choose a Niche

The health and wellness industry as a whole is a giant. They do over three billion dollars per

year in the United States alone. Some of the main niches include:

Weight Loss and Dieting

Supplements

Sports and Athletic Training

Allergies

Asthma

Colds and Flu

Homeopathy

Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders

Water

Exercise and sports science

Physical Therapy

Organic and Natural Food

Sleep Disorders

Herbs

Cosmetics

Surgery both for health and for cosmetic reasons

Chiropractic

Acupuncture

and there are even more sub niches within each of these main niches. So you can’t just say I

want to profit and make money from the health and wellness industry and then go after it. You

need to be specific about which niche you will specialize in. Then over time you can pursue

multiple niches as you become an expert and begin making money.

Here are some tips about how to choose your first niche:

1. Read some books. Mastering Niche Marketing as pictured below is one of the best.

2. Think about what niches within the health and wellness industry you relate to the very

best. A good start would be the health issues that you have struggled with yourself.

What have you done to solve your own health issues? How can you share this

information and product solutions with others and get paid to do it?

3. Consider your passions. This is important because in order to profit over the long term

you need to be passion about the niche that you pursue. For example, weight loss is

huge but if you personally aren’t passionate about it, then it will be difficult to engage in

the kind of conversations about it and to be able to share and sell to people.

Chapter 2- Find a Product Supplier

While it certainly is possible to make money without selling products in the health and

wellness industry for most people it is easier and better if you can find one or more

products lines to sell. Then you can add a coaching or training aspect to it later on which

I will discuss how to do this in Chapter 8.

Here are the main ways that you can find a product supplier:

1. Partner with a network marketing or direct selling company. This is what I have

done and what I recommend. There are many reasons for this but they main ones

include:

a. You can over time earn a residual income. That is get paid for the work that you

do just one time.

b. The investment cost is low and you usually don’t need to have an inventory or

stock products

c. Many of these companies do extensive research that you can use to share with

people.

d. While the prices can be more expensive in many cases although not all the

quality is better.

e. The training that is available on how to use and sell the products is unmatched.

You simply won’t get it by obtaining products in any other way.

2. Find a wholesaler. You can locate them by searching online or by going to Ebay and

looking at what is being sold by power sellers in ebay stores and seeing who these

people are using as their supplier for products.

This can be a great way to obtain a variety of products to sell. The biggest

disadvantage to this though is that you can in many cases be required to buy a large

amount of up front stock and this can get expensive, especially if you aren’t able to

sell what you have bought immediately. You also won’t get any training on how to

use or sell the products in most cases and even for those suppliers who will drop

ship, there are usually required minimums to purchase and annual membership

fees. However, it is an option to explore.

3. Become a bargain scout and find items by looking at discount store sales, yard sales,

and other places where people are selling health and wellness related items. This

can work great but again you need upfront cash and you won’t get the support that

you will get by partnering with a network marketing or direct selling company.

Chapter 3- Learn Everything You Can

Education is crucial to your success in profiting and building a business in the health and

wellness industry. If you don’t know how to answer the questions that people will ask about the

products that you are selling, then you will be unable to really be successful over the long term.

This is one reason why it is best to start with a niche in which you already have experience.

Read the top books on Amazon on your niche and products.

Find videos on youtube on your niche and products and watch them.

Find online and local trainings to attend.

In other words, become an expert in talking about your niche and the products that you are

selling. People are much more likely to buy from someone who is an expert than from someone

who is just selling something without any real knowledge. Consider also teaching local classes

on your topic to not only sell more but also to get practice in talking about your niche and

products.

Chapter 4- Develop an Audience

What good is having the best products to help people with their health and wellness, if you

don’t have an audience to share them with? Not much.

In order to be successful in profiting from the health and wellness industry you have to have a

large and sizable audience.

Here are some of the top ways to get that audience:

1. Attend fairs, boutiques and shows. You can both have a booth and attend to network

with the people.

2. Attend local network meetings such as chamber of commerce events, BNI, women’s

groups and more.

3. Do a contest or giveaway.

4. Pass out samples and then follow up with the people.

5. Blog

6. Podcast/Radio Show

7. Classified Ads

8. Video marketing

9. Newsletter

10. Talking with everyone you know and meet

11. Social media sites- twitter, facebook, linkedin

12. Classes and parties

13. Webinars

14. Teleseminars

There are other ways but these are some of the best.

I recommend that you pick 3-5 of these methods to focus on and then work these good and

hard for at least three months before working with other methods.

Chapter 5- Create a Marketing Funnel

You have probably heard the statistic before that it takes the average person at least seven

times of being exposed to your product or service before that person will actually buy. So in

order to make your health and wellness business a success, you need to create a marketing

funnel through which you will lead potential purchasers of your products and or services if you

eventually offer those too.

However, it is easier said than done to create a marketing funnel. Here are the basics:

1. Offer a way for people to join your list. In most cases you will want this to be via email.

You may also offer options for joining a mailing list, completing a contact form to

request more information or receiving text messages from you.

2. Create an offer that people will want to receive and give it away for free in exchange for

joining your list.

3. Create a plan as to where you will put your lead generating magnets. At minimum they

should be on your website or blog and your facebook page. It is also a good idea for

most people to have a separate capture page that is designed exclusively to capture

leads.

4. Decide that else you will send to those who join your list. Ideas include a weekly or bi-

weekly newsletter, physical cards, or small gifts such as a free CD or DVD, free product

samples, and anything else that is cost effective and relevant to the products you are

selling.

5. Decide how often and when you will contact your list.

6. Decide what products you will offer to your list and in what order. In most cases you will

first recommend a product under $25, then a product under $100, then something that

is $100-$300 and on up from there depending upon what you are selling.

7. Make periodic tweaks and changes to your marketing funnel. At minimum you should

adjust and review your funnel every three months.

Chapter 6- Sell Your Products

In most cases, it is a bad idea to focus exclusively on selling online. This is especially true of

health and wellness related products. Many people won’t buy these kinds of products unless

they first are able to try them or talk to a person live. This doesn’t mean you can’t succeed

online, but you will want to make hosting live classes or presentations a regular part of your

sales strategy. Offline networking at meetings and other events such as those you can find at

http://meetup.com are an excellent idea as well. Clubs and support groups for people who

have a certain health condition are great too. For example, a lot of major cities have support

groups for people with illnesses such as MS, diabetes, lupus and celiac disease. There are also

expos at many convention centers such as the gluten free expo, and the diabetes expo where

you can attend and network with the people and vendors there.

If you are allowed to sell on ebay this is also a good promotion strategy. Many network

marketing and direct selling companies won’t allow this however. That said, there are ways to

work around this using ebay features such as the classified ads and selling informational ebooks

or guides related to your products that also have a link for people to learn more. You also want

to make a comprehensive list of the reasons why people would buy your products and the

problems that you solve for people. Then find ways to sell your products by finding people who

are searching for what you are offering.

Chapter 7- Follow Up With Your Customers

Selling a health and wellness product to someone and then failing to follow up is not only

terrible for business but it does your customers a great disservice since many if not all of them

need ongoing support and training and will reorder more frequently if you do proper follow up

with them. Here are some of the best ways to do customer follow up after selling a health and

wellness product.

1. Call all customers within a week of purchase for an initial follow up to see how they like

the product, to see if they have any questions and to make sure that they know how to

use it properly.

2. Do a periodic phone checkup and evaluation. Figure out when your customer will most

likely need more of whatever it is that you sold him or her and call between 5-10 days

before to see how the product is working and to answer any questions.

3. Teach classes on a regular basis on how to use one or more of your products and invite

your customers to attend. You can offer them on a variety of topics and teach a variety

of ways to use your products. Invite them to also bring friends and family. This can get

you more business.

4. Do a postcard mailing.

5. Keep an email and or text messaging list and email everyone at least once a month.

6. Create a facebook fan page and invite your customers to like it.

7. Invite your customers to meet with you in person periodically.

Chapter 8- Offer On-going Coaching and Support

While this is similar to customer follow up it is different in some aspects. The main purpose of

this is to increase your business both in selling more products and in increasing profits by

offering services to your customers as well as products. You want to make the on-going

coaching and support that you offer a more intensive and higher priced program than your

regular customer follow up. Examples of this kind of coaching and support include:

1. A monthly membership site

2. An e-book or DVD or CD of the month

3. Coaching sessions either in person, or over the phone or skype that focus on a specific

health need.

4. Offer customized coaching packages to help people solve a specific health problem such

as quitting smoking, managing and controlling allergies, managing type 2 diabetes,

getting better sleep at night etc.

5. Offer multiple ways for people to work with you.
