How to Pin a Bachelor’s Degree Hood Bachelor’s students wear a gown with bell sleeves and a hood that is the colour unique to their degree, edged in white. 1. Place the hood over the student’s head with the V in front. The white edging should be on top. The tag (if there is one) should not be visible.

2. Align the edge of the white at top of the V with the top of the zipper.

In the style of gowns we rent from Gaspard’s, the zipper comes up

much higher than it does on this gown.

3. Arrange the hood so that it drapes naturally over the shoulders and down the back, creating a U shape in white against the coloured fabric.

4. Pin the hood to the gown, using a safety pin on each shoulder. Place the

pin on the seam between the coloured fabric and the white edging.

5. Once the hood is pinned in place, the white edging should fold over the pin, hiding it.

6. The front of the hood should lay flat against the gown.

How to Pin a Master’s Degree Hood Master’s students wear a gown with no sleeves and a hood that is the colour unique to their degree, lined in grey. 1. Place the hood over the student’s head with the V in front. The grey should be facing out. The tag (if there is one) should not be visible.

2. Align the top of the V with the top of the zipper.

In the style of gowns we rent from Gaspard’s, the zipper comes up

much higher than it does on this gown.

3. Arrange the hood so that it drapes naturally over the shoulders and down the back. Note that the grey is on the outside of the hood, with the coloured lining peeking out through the middle.

4. Pin the hood to the gown, using a safety pin on each shoulder. Place the

pin about two inches from the edge of the hood closest to the student’s neck.

5. Once the hood is pinned in place, the edge of the hood should fold over the pin, hiding it, and exposing the coloured lining. The front of the hood should lay flat against the gown.

How to Pin the Front of the Hood Sometimes, despite our best efforts, the front of the hood doesn’t want to lay flat against the chest. There is a simple way to pin the hood in the front so that the pin remains invisible. 1. Slip an open safety pin through the loop at the tip of the V in the front of

the hood.

2. Secure the pin alongside the zipper, under the fold of fabric that covers the zipper.

3. When the fabric is folded back over the zipper, the pin is hidden.
