Tips for Packing Fragile and

Expensive Items

Moving to a new home can be exciting but it is not easy. You need to prepare yourself for a

seemingly unending process. There are plenty of tasks in line that you need to finish before you

move so it’s not surprising if you’ll easily get overwhelmed during the process.

More importantly, you also need to prepare your belongings for packing. Pack as early as you can

so you can still gather the materials that you need. If you do it in the last minute, you might not

be able to pack your belongings carefully and it might get damaged. And, packing properly is really

important especially when you have fragile and expensive items.

Here are 5 tips on how to pack fragile and expensive items like an expert:

Use Quality Cushioning Materials

The reason why fragile items break during your move is

because they were not cushioned properly. When packing

fragile/breakable items, you need to make sure that they are

properly cushioned. Bubble wraps and packing papers serve as

excellent cushioning materials.

Wrap items in bubble wrap and secure it with tape. But,

avoid using too much tape as you might have a hard time

removing it when you start unpacking. Just use enough

tape to secure the bubble wrap.

Stuff vases, bowls, glasses, and stemware with crumpled

paper. It will provide pressure from within. If you don’t have enough paper, you can also use tissue

paper. When packing plates, place a layer of bubble wrap in between the plates you stack.

Use New Moving Boxes

When packing fragile items, it’s best to utilise new moving boxes. New moving boxes are still in

great condition so they’ll be sturdy enough.

You can always find stores in your local area that sell

moving boxes. And, if you happen to live in Australia, you

can conveniently order moving boxes online. You can find

websites, like themovingboxcompany.com.au, that offer

quality moving boxes. And, they can even deliver these

boxes right to your doorstep.

If you utilise used boxes, you can’t be too sure if they are

still in good condition. They may be, but you are not sure

if they will stay sturdy throughout your move since they

are already used.

If you think getting new boxes is costly, you can always

opt for discounted moving packs which contain a number

of moving boxes. It also includes several packing

materials that you’ll need so you can really save money

when you buy it in packs. If you want to know what’s

included in such packs, you can check the details here.

Strategically Place Your Items in the Box

Before you place your items in the moving box, make sure to place 2 to 3 inches deep of packing

peanuts on the bottom of the box. Strategically place items in the box and make sure that it is

surrounded with 2 to 3 inches of packing material in all sides of the moving box to provide more

cushion.

It’s best to place heavier items at the bottom to avoid lighter items from being shattered or

crushed as you move.

Place Smaller Boxes within Larger Moving Boxes

For items that are extra fragile (or for items that

you really cherish), pack them in smaller moving

boxes. After that, place the smaller boxes in a

much larger moving box. This will provide

another layer of protection to keep your extra

cherished belongings safe while it’s transported

to your new home. This will also lessen the

pressure put into the box while it’s stacked with

other boxes.

Make sure that the boxes are securely taped.

Label Your Moving Boxes

Don’t forget to label your moving boxes. By labelling boxes,

you will know what you placed inside it. Boxes will also be

handled with extra care, especially if you hired moving

companies to assist with your move. As you already know

what the items are for, you will know where to place these

boxes when you arrive to your new home making it easier

for you to unpack.
