• Schedule your registration audit(s) withyour chosen certification body.

Ensure you have made adequatepreparations and that seniormanagement staff are available, andaccess to relevant legislation andregulations is established.

Your Certification Body will conductyour RCMS audit in one stage or yourRC14001 audit in two parts (Stage Iand Stage II).

Receive audit report from CertificationBody.

Carry out corrective actions within theallowed time (if necessary).

Responsible Care Management System (RCMS )initiative was launched in 1988 by the AmericanChemistry Council (ACC) and remains largely withinthe province of the chemical industry. ResponsibleCare is based on seven Codes of ManagementPractice: Pollution Prevention, Distribution, ProductStewardship, Process Safety, Employee Health andSafety, Security, Community Awareness andEmergency Response. While technically classified asa “voluntary” program, theACC requires certification toa Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) forits member companies. This can be either RCMS orRC14001.

is a Technical Specification that combinesISO 14001 with additional Responsible Careelements required under the RC14001 scope. Thetext of ISO 14001 is reproduced in its entirety, andwithin each section, the additional Responsible Carerequirements are included as boxed text. By choosingRC14001, companies can become certified to bothsystems simultaneously.
