How to film fairy lights
Why do we need to research fairy lights?
For our music video, Izzy and I have decided that we want to film fairy lights. This is however, really difficult to execute well and often, the fairy lights can look poor in filming if not done correctly. I have therefore decided to research this so we can get the best shots we can.
What did we find?
After researching, I found that it is better to video fairy lights when the room/environment is light. This provides some light to the darkness, meaning that the aperture on the camera settings can be set accordingly. This should capture the shimmering of the lights, whilst the surroundings are still visible, adding textual contrast instead of fuzziness.
Any more tips?
As well as this, it is important to make sure the frame you are filming is full. This will make the footage look more professional. Using a tripod will stabilize the camera to avoid blurring of the lights. The ISO should also be set at 800 or over, as a flash obviously can't be used for filming. An aperture of f/4 and an exposure of 1/4 seconds should work well. The white balance should be set to tungsten, which should make the lights look more vivid.
