Public Data Available At The Macro LevelNormally the statistics available in Thailand are available at the macro level; but when it comes to the product or industry level we often find unclear data that's difficult to judge the relevancy to your own business.

Limited Data from Government AgenciesIt's not easy to determine the figures associated with market sizing in Thailand and this is mainly because the data collection from the Government Agencies is not comprehensive or detailed enough to give you a picture of how big the market of your product actually is.

Department of Business Development

This is a database of registered companies where you can get public financial figures such as sales and net profits. !This is the source you can use if you know the names of your competitors. You can identify the key players and get their annual revenues in order to extrapolate for the total estimated market size. !This method works well for the industries in which key players do not diversify their businesses to focus on other industries. !This is because the annual revenue figure is a consolidated revenue, therefore, it will be less accurate if a company has a diversified revenue from different industries.

Ministry of Commerce

Import and export data can be found from the Ministry of Commerce website (http://www2.ops3.moc.go.th). !This is a useful source of data if import companies mainly supply the market. You can find the import value and quantity from this source. !However, if you are in a niche market, import and export data only gives you a broad view of your product category and is not useful for an analysis. !

The Office of Industrial Economics website

This source contains information about production capacity, production utilization, export and domestic sales. !However, this is not an expansive data collection and not all factories report the information to OIE.

Department of Land Transportation

If you are in automotive business and agricultural machinery market, you can get the number of register vehicle by brand and also by province from the Department of Land Transportation (DLT). !For any information you use from the DLT, its best to call the statistic department to check the definition

This source shows construction areas by type of building (housing, condominium, office building, factory and hotel). You can look at the trends of these buildings; however, it’s not an expansive data collection especially for the housing data. This is because not all the housing construction units report data to government agencies especially those that are located out of the city area.
