SUB-TOPIC: Creating Tables in MS Word
Lesson #2
Tables are very useful for displaying information in a way that is easy to interpret. They can also be used to keep text aligned. A table is made up of rows and columns. The intersection of a row and a column is called a cell.
You can put information into the table by placing the insertion point in the appropriate cell and typing. You can insert a table into a document by using the menu or by using the table button in the toolbar.
Figure 1a below shows a table with 5 rows and 3 columns, and Figure 1b shows a table with 2 rows and 2 columns.

Creating a table
1. Click on the Insert Tab in the toolbar.
2. Highlight the number of cells you need (see Fig 2a).
3. The table will then appear (see Fig. 2b).
4. You can select an individual cell or a group of cells by holding down the mouse button
while passing over the cell or cells that you want to select. You can then apply text
formatting, such as font size, type, colour, italics, etc.
5. If you need an extra row, click just to the right of the bottom right cell. You can see the
cursor in the correct place (see Fig. 2c).
6. If you want to change the width of a column, click on the line between two columns and
then drag it to the right or left.
