Plan and measure for the gate.

Dig the hole and concrete the post in.

Build the gate frame.

Check gate fit and hinge placement.

Put hinges on post and gate and check it opens and closes OK.

Put tin on gate.

Put bolt lock on.

Padlock gate.

You need cement, stones and sand.

You need to mix 1:2:3

Put it all together in a wheelbarrow.

Slowly add water and mix well! Lewis says “don’t make it too runny or too dry”.

Dad says “its just like making a cake”.

I will now demonstrate making concrete.

A chemical reaction called hydration (combining with water).

Water reacts with the cement to glue the stones and sand together.

It gets hot and hardens in 1 or 2 days. It is really strong in 3 or 4 weeks.

It has been used for thousands of years to build things, like dams, bridges, buildings and statues.

It can last for hundreds or even thousands of years.

It can be made different colours.

Bugs (bacteria) can be used to make it stronger.

Concrete is used on missile launch pads.

It is like an artificial (man made) rock.
