How to be a good learner How is it difficult to describe a good learner?

There are many factors when we talk about the quality of good learner. Research found that the most common factor was the number of hours the children had practiced. Teachers have some convictions about good learner. They will tell us that the students who do the best are the ones who always do homework. But there are some exceptional because each student has a unique personality that they can success without do homework. Then, what we need to do is find out the methods that will encourage habits in the students.

How important is the student motivation?

Motivation is the other reasons for the success of language teaching. Research by Gardner and Lambert suggested that students who felt interested about a language and wanted to integrate into the culture its speakers were more highly motivated than those who were only learning language to get a job.Teachers should have skills to make the students fell interested to their subject. It is by their choice of the topic, their attitude, and their behavior in the class. But, real motivation just comes from each individual.

Who is responsible for learning?

In the modern language institutes, self-access study is the biggest number of time that given to the students. Students who are prepared to take responsibility for their learning are good learners. Getting students to homework is the best way to encourage student autonomy. Teachers should choose the right kind of task to the student because it is important for them.

What characteristics do good classroom learners share?

Good classroom learners share some characteristics, for example: A willingness to listen: good learners listen whats going on, really listen to the subject that is being used. A willingness to experiment: good learners are prepared to take a risk, to try things out and see how it works. A willingness to ask question: good learners do this, judging when it is appropriate to do so and when it is not. A willingness to think about how to learn: good learners bring their own study skills when they come to the lesson. They have their best way to study. A willingness to accept correction: good learners are prepared to be corrected. They are keen to get feedback from the teacher when the feedback is constructive criticism and act upon what they are told.
