NOSORH promotes the capacity of State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) to improve
health care in rural America through leadership development, advocacy,
education, & partnerships.
What is a State Office of Rural Health?
State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) work to improve access to health care in rural and underserved areas.Three core functions:
• Information Dissemination• Rural Health Coordination• Technical Assistance
SORHs are a connection to State and Federal resources for hospitals,
clinics and thousands of rural health partners across the United
States
There is a State Office of Rural Health in Every State!

Primary Care & Rural Health
Louisiana RHC TALouisiana, a state agency, focuses on primary health care development in rural areas. This includes RHCs, FQHCs, SBHCs, and maximizing private practices that serve patients with Medicare and Medicaid.Including• Community assessments and development• Site visits, mock surveys, operational guidance• Regulatory compliance technical assistance• Rural Health Clinic Manual
Louisiana RHC TA-EPLouisiana has provided several resources to assist RHCs, FQHCs and Hospitals to prepare for new CMS regulations including:• Annual RHC, FQHC, and CAH workshop
• Educational sessions conducted by national speakers and state emergency operations staff on the emergency preparedness regulations
• Health Standards and Emergency Preparedness developed state specific templates for RHCs and FQHCs; Dedicated staff working with outpatient clinics before, during, and after emergencies
The core functions of the KORH are as follows:
Collection and dissemination of information Coordination of rural health resources and activities
statewide Provision of technical assistance Encourage recruitment and retention of health
professionals in rural areas Participate in strengthening State, Local and Federal
partnerships
What We DoThe Kentucky Office of Rural Health provides a framework for linking small rural communities with state and federal resources while working toward long-term solutions to rural health issues.
This is some of the work we do:• Direct the coordination of efforts across the state to improve rural
health.• Participate in statewide planning efforts and policy analysis specific to
rural health.• Monitor and evaluate changing federal and state policies that impact
state and local rural health programs.
• Act as a liaison between Federal/State agencies on local, state and national rural health issues.
• Direct the maintenance and dissemination of rural health information to increase awareness and understanding of issues.
• Recommend actions to facilitate rural health program development and implementation.
• Assist with grant application development and review.• Strengthen state and federal partnerships.• Search for new ways to help recruit and retain high-quality
health professionals in rural areas.• Provide health and data resources.
