Inspired by the classic films of Jean-Pierre Melville, such as Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samouraï , and Sergio Leone’s How Once Upon a Time in the West, The SHIVΩRING evokes tension and drama through silent action. Like an old western movie, revenge and redemption become the main ingredients for the character of Richard when he finally confronts an old family friend, 50 years later. Words that are not spoken, expressions and cold stares, make it evident that there is a history between the two characters. The camera movement, and placement, along with the pacing of the edit, were aesthetics to help create an eerie and uncomfortable atmosphere.

Filmmaker

Eric Latek graduated with a BS in Film Concentration, Visual and Media Arts & Mass Communication from Emerson College in 1998. After graduation, Latek began to lecture in Filmmaking, Animation and CGI for RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), JWU, and the Art Institute of Boston. Along with higher education, Eric has worked with youth organizations, such as Kid Filmmakers and Roving Eye, which help teach children the fundamentals of filmmaking. Latek’s national commercial work has landed him five Telly Awards, a Stevie Award and over a half dozen Emmys. Some of his commercial efforts were in directing/producing national spots for several Forture 500 companies such as IGT, COX, IBM, and MetLife. For the past 15 years Eric has been working on a documentary called TIGER. In 2015, Latek’s short documentary film entitled Anna, won several awards around the world, including “Best Short Documentary” Phoenix Film Festival, “Best Short Documentary” Atlanta Docufest, and “Grand Prize” Living with Alzheimer’s Film Festival. The SHIVΩRING, along with Latek’s second short film, BRANCH, have both been nominated as 2017 Oscar Qualifiers for Best Short Narrative Film. Eric’s philosophy and professional experience has made him become multifaceted in all forms of movie production. Evidence of this wealth of talent and abilities was best exemplified by Filmmaker Magazine’s recognition of Eric as one of “25 New Faces in Film”, worldwide.

Music ComposerMauro Colangelo is a Milan-born, international award-winning composer. With over 20 years of industry experience, Mauro has successfully produced music and sound for major international advertising campaigns such as Sprite, Coca Cola, Ferrari, Fiat , Alfa Romeo, Samsonite, Mattel, Reebok, Olidata, Alex and Ani, Benjiamin & Moore, The Smithsonian along with many others. Colangelo is an accomplished session drummer and performer. In addition, to playing with his own band “Billow”, he has performed with Alex Baroni, Juanes, Lene (Aqua), and Ricky Martin. Mauro scored for the Documentary Series “Overland” a prime time series broadcasted worldwide. Edgy, masterful, and innovative, Mauro’s work never fails to impress with the perfect blend of creative content mixed with the top-notch quality sound.

RichardArmen Garo is an actor and writer, known for The Departed, American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Sopranos, Brotherhood and HBO’s Vinyl. Armen received professional training at the Trinity Rep Conservatory in Providence, Rhode Island under the direction of Larry Arrick and David Eliott. While at the conservatory he studied acting under the tutelage of Suzanne Shepherd and Fred Kareman studying the Meisner Technique. He also studied acting under Larry Arrick, Richard Jenkins, and George Martin. Armen later studied mime with Michael Grando and stage fighting under Bill Patton. He also studied ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance under Daniel Nagrin, Irene Feigenheimer, Ara Fitzgerald, and Mark Taylor. He studied voice and dialects under Barbara Damashek, Gordon Jacoby, and Brian McEleney. He also studied playwriting under David Eliott. He also studied lighting design under Eugene Lee and set design under Akira Yoshimura.

WalterMichael Grando has been a performer and Master of the Art of Mime for more than half a century. He has carried on with the tradition of his Mentor, teacher and friend Marcel Marceau . In 2013, Michael has also co-produced and directed his own film homage to silent cinema, The Phantom Boatman. He has directed many productions on the collegiate and professional stage over the years , and is no stranger to the theater of language and voice. Mr. Grando has appeared on the Tonight Show, Good Morning America and on CBC television. Mr. Grando has taught at Brown University, the University of Rhode Island , Connecticut College , Trinity Rep Conservatory , and conducted classes in many other college and university settings .
