How is sound used in trailers?
Trailer 1- The King’s Speech
Dialogue/Sound Bridge- Having this at the beginning of the trailer helps us to further understand the storyline and what is happening within the trailer We are then able to see the King speaking with a stutter, this is helpful as the film is based around this and therefore we can an insight into the characters life and what the film is about.
Non-Diegetic Sound- We can then hear classical music in the background, this is very effective as it gives us an insight into the genre. The music then suddenly picks up as the pace of the shots that are being shown picks up. This is effective as we get snippets of the middle of the film without giving too much away. The music then becomes tenser and builds up towards the end of the trailer, this helps to create a sense of curiosity and therefore wanted to find out more about the film.
Trailer 2- Pride and Prejudice
Diegetic sound- Horses, horse and carriages-> Helps to reflect the genreNon-Diegetic Sound- Classical music, towards the end of the trailer the music gets faster creating a tense atmosphere.Voice Over- Helps to give the audience an understanding of the storyline, as well as information about the authors and actors etcDialogue- Adds depth and understanding to the trailer, better knowledge of the storyline and the characters
Trailer 3- Sense and Sensbility
Non-Diegetic Sound- Fast upbeat music, could reflect the pace of the film?Dialogue between the characters- Helps us to gain an understanding of who the are and what the film is aboutVoice Over- Information on what the film is about and who produced it (Columbia Pictures)
