“How Did I Get Here?”
• A vast array of events can lead up to a child’s placement in foster or protective care, including the death of a parent or guardian or trouble with law enforcement.
• Abuse, be it physical or sexual, will land a child in protective care if no other placement options are available.
• Neglect of basic needs, as determined by investigators, is another reason for placing youth in protective care.
