HOW EFFECTIVE ARE POSTERS

● I feel film posters are very affective in that they can be placed anywhere round city centre or at bus stops, with minimal fuss and create maximum target potential.

● Posters can also reinforce the name of the film thus making it more memorable, this is why I chose The Silence Of the Lambs poster, because it is extremely recognizable.

● This is why many huge conglomerates WarnerBrothers in particular, spend a lot of money on film posters because they catch peoples eye. They make them intrigued about the film, without giving anything away about the narrative.

HOW EFFECTIVE ARE RADIO TRAILERS

● Radio trailers reach a lot of people in that they can catch people while they're driving or even while they're having their tea.

● Unlike posters they give a small glimpse into the narrative of the film, usually narrated by people who explain what's happening.

● They are effective in that can intrigue people and get they people excited to see the film.

● It could be argued that while radio trailer are effective, they do bring in as many viewers as posters. This is because posters can be placed anywhere, whereas people have to be listened to radio to hear.

HOW WELL THEY BOTH SELL PRODUCTS

● They both sell their product, but in completely different ways, posters use imagery and sometimes newspaper ratings to sell their product. They also reach people when they're out an about usual at bus stops or city centre.

● Trailers tend reach people when they're relaxed and usually play then short clips from the product.

● Posters tend to reach more people because not everyone listens to the radio, but most people live in city centre. Radios do have an added bonus in one case in that they are probably more convincing because they describe the product, poster usually just have one picture.

POSTER COMPARISON

HOW THEY COMPARE

● Its very clear when the two texts are next to each to see how they are similar and how we have used it to inspire our own. Starting with the picture it shows batman in the centre who is the films protagonist, we have used the same technique as that poster in that we have placed a main character on the front cover. What is evidently different is that while they have used the films protagonist we have used our films antagonist. We did this because batman is a Action and Adventure whereas ours is a thriller so we need a scary element to our poster.

● The batman poster has a quote on the front which ours purposely doesn't. “A fire will rise” is viable on the batman posters, ours doesn't because we wanted our film to be psychological, and we didn't think something with an ambiguous ending couldn't be summed up in a sentence.

HOW THEY COMPARE

● One aspect that our poster and the WarnerBrothers poster have in common is the dark imagery. It is clear just by looking at the batman poster it is a dark film, show through the deep red like colours of the background. As our film also shares a similar dark narrative we wanted to portray this through our poster, thus when we took the picture we did it in blacked out room with just one lamp to create a thriller image.
