In our teen film we have included some typical teenage stereotypes that we got inspiration from by researching existing teen films.

-’MEAN GIRLS’:

REGINA GEORGE BRITTANY

You have Brittany who's name screams “BITCH” because typically in teen films the “stuck up rich girl” has this typical all American name. Pretty much like the character Britney (what a coincidence) Allen from ‘Bring It on: All or Nothing’. In the teen film opening Brittany holds her bag slightly outwards of her body which can be seen as her trying to attract attention. Furthermore she wears a statement piece necklace which can reflect her middle class status.

-‘THE BREAKFAST CLUB’:

JOHN EL

Then you have the character El. She wears all black which is considered as a depressing colour- that can be used to reflect her as a person.

The minimal colour in her outfit can be see as El having a fixed view on what she does in society. Like Grace she wears glasses but they're sun glasses which does not make her any nerdy as the lenses shield her eyes making her mysterious.

-‘THE PRINCESS DIARIES’

We have the character of Grace who is your typical nerd. This is present through the way she is conveyed in ‘Weirdly Connected’. She carries her books in her hands which can be interpreted as her having a close relationship with her books aka studying constantly.

Furthermore she wears glasses which most typical nerds in teen films wear as it an easy way of distinguishing them, as smart people are usually known in society for wearing glasses. The audience get a sense of her characteristic from her name as the word ‘grace’ connotates decorum and finesse.

Grace is seen as the only one of the three who has a positive representation, however this is questionable when the revelation that they share a past is spoken off. This them makes the representation of the three girls complex as the audience are unaware of what impact this ‘past’ has on them as a person.
