How does Fitzgerald make Gatsbys extraordinary gift for hope such a memorable part of the novel?Fitzgeralds novel, the Great Gatsby has made Gatsbys gift for hope such a memorable part of the novel by

referring to the main themes: Appearance VS Reality and the decline of the American Dream. The collapse of

Gatsbys hope on getting Daisy is displayed all over the novel. Fitzgerald has emphasised the fact that Gatsbys

dream is a dream that will never happen, even though the facts Gatsby continues to strive at his dream no

matter what the characters say to him, which is a reason why Gatsby is Great. The overall idea is that hopecan corrupt your life or make you succeed by reaching your goals.

Firstly, in the Great Gatsby we are introduced with Daisy being the green light, and the fact that Gatsby will doanything in order to go closer to Daisy, even though the chances are small. The theme of Appearance VS Reality

is presented in this novel by displaying Daisy as a beauty queen, while in reality she is nothing but selfish and a

burden to her family. Gatsbys Enchanted objects has diminished by one, Fitzgerald has illustrated that thesignificance of Daisy is gone and the Colossal vitality of his illusions has blinded his eyes to the true world. By

this, Gatsby has now deduced that Daisy was hiding her true self by creating a persona. The author conveyed a

message to the readers, that when we put effort to achieve a goal, it might not feel that great in your mind.

Utilizing the colour green in the Green light, the colour has connotations with hope and ambition, so

therefore Fitzgerald has created Gatsbys gift of hope by linking in the idea of the colour green. Daisy is also

symbolized through The bright feather that drifted away. The use of the adjective Bright links with theconcept of Daisy being the green light, and drifted away suggests that Gatsby will never get Daisy. Nicksjudgement on Gatsby about being Worth the whole damn bunch put together, refers toGatsbys life being notworth for sacrificing for Daisy; the Green Light. The idea of Gatsby clinging on to that diminutive amount of

hope even thought he is in risk of archiving nothing makes him Great. Finally, Fitzgerald depicts the Green

light so it preserves symbolically the same values of hope that the New World had for those settlers, the hopeof trying to Repeat the past. Representing Daisy as the Green Light has created the readers to clearly

deduce the fact that hope is a good thing, however having too much can cause various consequences.

Furthermore, Fitzgerald has expressed Gatsbys American dream as an impossible dream to achieve, nevertheless Gatsby kept on trying, which makes such a memorable part of the novel. The American Dream is

when a person tries to make a fortune with hard work in America, but Gatsbys dream is to get Daisy. Even

though, the Foul dust floated in his dream, Gatsby retained his dream and believed that one day he could beDaisys husband. Throughout the novel, Dust is a recurring motif and conveys the perception that anythingthe dust touches, the dream of that person becomes corrupted. By extension, reinforcing that Gatsby had a

dream which was unattainable. Fitzgerald crafts the idea that when it feels like life is being against you, we

mustnt give up, we must endeavour to succeed. The author emphasises his pointby making use of techniques

to indicate the unwinnable dream. We can see that the author describes Gatsbys dream as committinghimself to the following of a grail, the noun Grail is the cup that Jesus drank through in the last supper, so forthis reason the cup is scare which stresses the dream being unrealistic, nonetheless Gatsby still keeps on

believing in his dream. The final line of the Great Gatsby symbolizes humans being Boats against the current,

borne back ceaselessly into the past, this states that we are restricted from moving forward because ofnostalgia. As a result of this, the readers learn that hanging on to a hope which is virtually impossible should be

let go, rather than stopping your life. Fitzgerald has made use of another theme; the decline of the American

Dream to make Gatsby's gift of hope is such a memorable part of the novel.

Gatsbys gift of hope is memorable, due to its dramatic collapse at the end of Fitzgeralds Great Gatsby. Thiscollapse is foreshadowed in the beginning, and the readers clearly see the deterioration of his hope for getting

Daisy from Tom. Symbolizing Gatsbys life as a Caravansary, it had Fallen like a card house at the

disapproval in her eyes. The simile attains the foreshadowing the crumbling of his life, when Daisy makes the

decision to go with Tom. In addition, Fitzgerald has designed Pammy; Daisys daughter to destroy some hope

of Gatsby. By looking at the child with surprise gives the reader an impression that Gatsby is now realizinghow harder it will be to take Daisy back. The ultimate decline of Gatsby's hope is when the fake Jay has been

shattered by Toms hard malice to reveal his true self to Daisy, as a result of this we can deduce that Daisy fellin love with Jay Gatsby not James Gatz, who he really is, she fell in love with his persona. Gatsby becoming

aware of that he cannot go over the barrier to become old money further corrupts his hope. The author

constructs a concept of nobody will succeed if we only concentrate on one thing in life. Designing Gatsby being

engrossed on trying to win back the love of Daisy that the Poor son-of-a-bitch didnt have any friends to go to

his funeral. Fitzgerald has projected the idea that having hope to succeed is not everything.
