And how you can help set the global standards for smart cities ………and, by doing so, open up much greater opportunities for your business.

The goal of a Smart City“From a government perspective, the goal of a “Smart City” is to integrate public agencies, systems and infrastructures into one holistic system.”

Another way of saying this is:“The smartness of a city is a measure of how well it is able to bring together all of its resources in order to tackle the challenges and grasp the opportunities it faces.”

What is a Smart City?“A Smart City represents a network of interconnected information systems using smart sensors that creates value by applying advanced technologies to search, access, transfer, and process information.

What are Smart City standards?

Smart city standards need to cover everything needed to implement a solution And it all needs to fit together!

What kinds of standards?

Let’s think about data!In order for a city to become smarter, increasing amounts of useful data within the city needs to be: • collected, • pulled together, • analysed, • made available, and • used

to help the city work better

A range of standards is needed

• Technical and connectivity standards• Data format standards• Ontology standards• Search and labelling standards to help find out who has data

that would be useful to you or who could easily collect the data you need

• Standards to enable a simple process to “buy” and “sell” that data– Pricing – how to determine appropriate and acceptable

prices– Contract obligations – what rights and obligations are

transferred and what remain with the original owner• Standards to maintain data security and privacy when data

from one source is merged with another

These all need to be tackled together

This requires people with different sets of expertise working on the different parts of the value chain, in parallel with each other.This is tough work and we need exceptional people like you, to help us build the blocks that will build the smart city.
