How did you use new media

technologies in the construction

and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

Introduction

• Today's world is entirely dependent on the technology for its day to day functioning. Similarly media studies is also influenced by the different technologies present in the world. Therefore my media project used many media technologies present in the market.

WEBSITES

• Firstly looking at the websites, i used a range of different websites for my trailer, poster and magazine. Websites such as Google, Youtube, IMBD , OCR Media Blog and etc were very important for my research, construction and evaluations.

• YouTube played a very crucial part in my research. YouTube is the leading website in terms on online video data base. This helped me in viewing many trailers. Due to this I was able to learn many details about trailers and was able to analyze them as well. By constantly using this website I was not only made familiar with the concept of a trailer but I was able to compare different type of trailers. Moreover YouTube also helped me in my post production. Through this site I was able to learn much about Adobe premiere cs5 and Adobe Photoshop cs5. These tutorials were a great help for me in editing my project.

• The OCR's media blog was another useful link. It helped me understand the subject as it is. I was able to see different kinds of projects and that how they were carried out. Perhaps the most important thing there was the examiner points which showed how each project was scored. It was a great help for me in terms of research and planning, construction and evaluations.

• Websites such as Google helped me in research. It allowed me to search for terminologies and basic content which I used for in my actual research. Other then this it also helped me in my project construction as through Google I was able to download the royalty free photos and fonts for my A2 project. On the other hand I also used Wordpressby making a blog on wordpress.com. it allowed me to personalize my blog in any way possible. Moreover due to the flaw less video embedding options I was able to post my videos without any hassle. It is a great tool which helped me in the presentation of my portfolio.

• Prezi is a presentation software available to everyone. It is a very efficient and helpful product. It allows individuals to make presentations in a very creative way. The best thing about this software is that it can be used for free. Other than this once the presentation is made it can be easily embedded on to different websites and can also shared with other people through the means of email, social websites and etc. It was used by me for my evaluations.

Softwares

• Here i will be mentioning Microsoft as it was the major technology used in my project. I used Dell's laptop which was using Microsoft Windows. Since all the websites i visited and all the softwares i used were on my laptop so its safe to say that i relied heavily on Microsoft. It provided me with the right type of Operating system on which i was able to do my research( eguse google), construct my product (eg use adobe premiere cs5) and evaluate it (eg microsoftword)

• Adobe is known around the world for its efficient soft wares. Premiere Cs5 is Adobe's visual editing software. The software has come along way since its beginning and is used by many people. It is not only user friendly but also allows the user to apply absolutely any effect on the video. Since my AS ihave been very familiar with this software, Personally i like it very much and was able to use it very easily for my trailer. I did not only used it to edit by trailer but i also made my production house logo using this software.

• This is also Adobe's well known software for photo editing. i was fairly new to this software and had to spend a lot of time perfecting my skills. I also had to take help from the internet in order to improve my skills. I used this Photoshop to produce my Film Poster and Magazine Cover. Like Premiere it also gives user the freedom of making endless changes to the particular product. I was even able to import fonts onto this software and features such as the lassie tool proved to be very helpful.

• This is a new software i came across while surfing the internet. I always wanted to give my videos a good colour toning as it hides the mistakes made while shooting such has over exposure and it also gives a good feel to the video. However, i also wanted to use prominent colour toning as it helps set the mood of the video. Therefore i used Magic Bullet looks. it helped me a lot since it has options for presets and custom colour toning. it was a very user friendly software and i easily was able to use it.

• I used microsoft word basically for rough work. I used it to write my script, compile my research and planning and also make a rough draft of my evaluations. The use of this software might be taken for granted however it still is a very useful software.

Gadgets

• I used Sony HDR XR550 camera for shooting my trailer. It has an HD camera which shoots on its own hardrive. The HDD storage was very helpful since a lot of my time was saved. Instead of capturing a dv i just had copy and paste my footage. Some of the other great features this camera has are automatic focus and steady shots. I was familiar with camera which made me use it to the best of my ability. it even allowed to capture some beautiful shots.

• I used a Cannon DSLR 550 D to shoot pictures to maintain continuity, to show my practical work and also for my posters and magazines. iused a DSLR camera to shoot high quality photos. A good quality photo is a very essential part of any poster or magazine.

• This was a very useful technology. External hardrives helped me in transferring my video and audio data. it also helped me in keeping a back up for my data.

Difficulties

Youtube

Even though Youtube is a blessing but in the year 2013 Youtube was banned in Pakistan, i often had to use different websites such as vimeo or Daily Motion. Even though these are also good websites but there content was not as large as youtube's so obviously it was a big disadvantage for me .

Aobe Premiere Cs5

• There were many problems i faced with this software. Since my footage was full HD it was sometimes too large for Adobe to process it. Often just to render 5 minutes of footage it took me more than an hour. This wasted a lot of my time and caused hindrance for me. Other then this iencountered a problem in my auto saving settings. Due to this some of the files were over written and ilost 2 days of editing. It was a huge problem since this occurred near my deadline. However had to again edit but i got the work done on time.

Electricity Cuts

• Over all the main problem i encountered was the electricity load shedding. Since Pakistan is going through an energy crisis we have electricity shutdowns daily. This also often caused the internet to disconnect which made research difficult. This also made it difficult to actually shoot the product since the indoor shots required lightings.
