It’s the story of a bear getting in a box which is loaded upside down onto a truck. On the way to town the box falls off the truck and the bear walks home. As he nears his house he calls out, “Mama, mama I went to town; inside, outside, upside down!” While it’s a simple story, it gives us a great picture of the church. When we gather at 202 McDaniel, we’re in our box - and the box is not a bad place to be. In fact, what happens in the box is essential to our development. We grow and mature by what happens in the box. Like the bear, however, there comes a time when we must leave the comfort of our boxes as we head outside. The exciting thing about being outside is that we are better able to discern what we believe when we are surrounded by different beliefs and lifestyles. It’s outside that our faith becomes our own. Then there’s the upside down part. From his truck ride from the house until his box falls onto the road, he finds himself standing on his head. We should expect nothing less of ourselves when we are following the way of Jesus. Compared to the ways of the world, it will leave us upside down. That’s the power of the Gospel. It was said of the early church in Acts 17:6, that they “turned the world upside down” as they were faithful to Jesus. What a great word about their faith! May we too be a people who are inside, outside, and upside down! Serving Jesus Together, Pastor Todd How can you participate? 1. Donate candy for a neighborhood party. 2. I loved reading The Berenstain Bears’ Inside Outside Upside Down book to our boys when they were growing up. It’s the story of a bear getting in a box which is loaded upside down onto a truck. On the way to town

the box falls off the truck and the bear walks home. Like the bear, however, there comes a time when we must leave

the comfort of our boxes as we head outside.

Pastor Todd

TOO MUCHDr. Greg DeLoachTeaching Pastor

Occasionally I get asked the question: how many weddings have you officiated? Good question, and here is the answer: a lot! I have chalked up nearly 100 or so in the past

decade, and a couple hundred more over the span of my ministry. More sobering, I officiate many more funerals.

This means I am pretty much an expert on “Too Much.” For anyone that thinks I may be talking about the cost of a wedding, think again. While the average cost of the wedding is $31,000 and can easily be described as too much, there are other ways overindulgence gets the better of us at weddings.

Take food for example. When I first started officiating weddings a typical reception would include butter mints, mixed nuts, and cheese straws. A fancy wedding reception might add chicken fingers or meatballs. It is no secret (and probably less of a surprise) that I use to “judge” weddings by the food at the reception! Nowadays wedding receptions can rival a five star restaurant. I am not complaining. I love food, but usually when the party is over I am lamenting my inability to reign in my ample appetite. Patting my stomach, I softly grumble to no one in particular, “too much.”

There are some things, however, of which one can never get too much. Is there such a thing as too much encouragement? How about too much love? Too much prayer? Too much forgiveness? Too much compassion?

GOD POURED OUT “TOO MUCH”The living in and celebration of faith, particularly faith in Christ, is a devotion of “too much.” God poured out “too much” in the personhood of Jesus in order that we might experience and live out the excess of God’s generosity.

May it be said of those of us who dwell, work, and serve around the brick edifice we call church - that we are a people who love too much, give too much, forgive too much, live too much, and hope too much…in Jesus’ name.

Generously blessed,Pastor Greg
