“48West is by far the best community I have ever lived in. The individual leases make things way easier to figure out and if I ever hit any snags, their staff was very helpful and kind. I actually came in with only one person in mind for a roommate and they were able to find the other two for us, really can’t beat the experience I had here,” - current resident Suraya. 48west is only a short bus ride away from GVSU’s Allendale campus on the Rapid bus (37) which runs approximately every 7 minutes from our location Monday through Friday. You can warm up at the coffee bar in the commons while you wait. If you and your friends are running a little late, no worries! The 48west staff often provides courtesy rides to campus in our custom designed Ford Flex. 48west supports GVSU events such as tailgates, Presidents’ Ball, and Relay for Life. 48west also eagerly supports GVSU groups and organizations by supplying free venue spaces,

ull Circle Townhomes doesn’t just think green when it comes to saving on rent money, they’re also LEED certified and Energy Star efficient.Along with competitively priced rent per bedroom – $585 for two-bedroom, $520 for a three-bedroom and $480 for a four-bedroom – Full Circle Townhomes

is running a special one month free deal until November 30 But owner-manager Darcie Whiddon said they don’t have many units left, and suggests that interested students sign a lease soon. “By leasing now, each student will get one month’s rent for free,” Whiddon said. “That’s a savings of up to $1,920.”But the energy efficient status can also save tenants hundreds of dollars on utility costs, too.Full Circle Townhomes estimates savings of more than $800 annually for each tenant, which is almost half off of what other complexes around Grand Valley State University’s Allendale Campus pay. “It’s a great place for students to live because it gives students the opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment,” Whiddon said. “By living at Full Circle, the tenants will breathe healthier air; they’ll save thousands of gallons of fresh water; and they save hundreds of dollars on utilities.” The eight available units come in two, three, or four-bedroom options and each unit is built with green-focused materials including “Green Wood” floors, “Green Label Plus” carpet made from recycled materials and dual flushing toilets. The “green philosophy” is just one aspect that drew GVSU student and resident Chelsie Hernandez to Full Circle Townhomes. “Everything you would expect to have in a home is included in Full Circle Townhomes,” Hernandez said. “For

example there is a washer, dryer, and dishwasher in each unit, plus each bedroom has its own personal bathroom.” “Students should consider living at Full Circle Townhomes because the bedrooms are spacious enough to not only just fit a bed, TV, etc., but also everything else a successful college student would need, like a desk, and still live comfortably,” she said. With a location right on Lake Michigan Dr., Full Circle Townhomes is within walking distance of campus. And during the winter, the Rapid Route 37 bus stop is only about 100 feet from the units. “The location is perfect, it’s close to campus so it’s convenient, but it’s secluded enough to where you are able to get a homey and relaxed atmosphere,” Hernandez said. The location isn’t the only thing that helps with a quieter atmosphere, though. The walls were built with sound barriers so neighbor noises will never be a problem. Included in the monthly rent is high speed internet, cable, parking, water, snow removal, recycling and trash – just another way Full Circle Townhomes is trying to save tenants money. And the free, assigned parking spaces insure tenants always have somewhere to park by their unit. With a think-green focus and a great location, Hernandez said it was an easy choice to make, and it only helped that the staff is understanding and willing to help students, unlike some larger complexes, she said. “I’ve heard horror stories from other students on campus about awful landlords and staff that they have had to deal with in situations where they live, Full Circle is not like that at all,” Hernandez said. “Full Circle Townhomes’ staff are all people whom are super friendly, easy to get along with and truly care about you.”

or residents looking for an upscale, loft-style unit with state-of-the-art facilities, located within five to 10 minutes from the Allendale Campus, look no further than Loft 45!

Located in the Heritage Towne Center Commercial complex on Lake Michigan Dr., Loft 45 sits close to restaurants and shops in the heart of downtown Allendale. Loft 45 is known for its up-scale style loft floor plans that are designed with tall 10 ft. ceilings, large palatial windows and walk-in closets in each unit. “Loft 45 has shops, restaurants and businesses that are steps from your door,” said property manager Rachel Fuller. Grand Coney, Allendale Vision, Dollar General, Snap Fitness, JV nails, Forever Sun, Love INC and Studio Luxe Dance Academy sit under the apartments, as well as Bamboo Express and Lake Michigan Pawn Shop, which just opened. Fuller said that a lot of the businesses around the complex, including Allendale Vision, do offer discounts for Grand Valley State University students

and residents who have a college ID. For residents looking to stay active, Snap Fitness center is one location that can be used by residents at a discounted price if they show their lease upon entry. Another feature that Loft 45 offers to residents is the ability to keep pets on the premise. “We are the only, or one of the only, apartment complexes that is a pet-friendly community in Allendale,” Fuller said. “We do allow cats and dogs in the complex up to 35 pounds.” Each apartment comes fully equipped with GE black appliances which include a dishwasher, built-in microwave, oven, refrigerator and even a washer and dryer. Loft 45 has eight unique one and two bedroom loft options ranging from 716 square feet to over 1,115 square feet. Rates are competitive as the one-bedroom loft ranges from $750 to $800 and a two-bedroom unit ranges from $865 to $940. Up to four people are allowed in the two bedroom units. There is also free open parking available to residents. If you’re looking for a place close to campus but also close to city life, Loft 45 is the place for you.

curious about the cottages?

14 HOUSING GUIDE

ant the independence of living in an off-campus community while being virtually on-campus? Campus View cottages offers just that. Grand Valley State University students who are looking for off-campus

housing for the 2015-2016 school year should check out Campus View before the semester is over. “There’s really nothing like the cottages anywhere else at Grand Valley,” said Kelsey, a GVSU student and third-year resident of Campus View. “I can’t wait to move in!” The Campus View Cottages are new for the fall 2015 semester. They are conveniently located next to Campus View at 10255 42nd Ave. in Allendale, just past the water tower and between South Laker Village and the Grand Valley Apartments. They are only a half-mile from the center of campus, which is just a ten-minute walk to classrooms. Plus, this housing choice is near Brian’s Books, the Campus Health Center and an ATM. The 1,800 square foot cottages provide a comfortable, relaxed style of living in a resort-like environment. Four residents can live in one cottage. The new facilities come fully furnished and each resident gets his or her own bedroom and access to private bathrooms in both the single-home or duplex styles. Campus View also provides apartments for students who want to live alone or with two, three or four roommates. They can choose between their fully furnished studio, one bedroom or two bedroom options. This option is located next to the complex’s recreation center. The third option is Campus View townhomes, which can hold three or four residents per unit, ranging from 1.5 baths to 4.5 baths. These require students to bring their own furniture or rent some from Campus View. Also, there is an option to use a garage for extra storage space. The most common style (four bedroom, two bath) townhome costs $370 for a 12-month lease and $440 for a nine-month lease. Room rates vary depending on how many people live in one unit and whether the unit is an apartment, townhouse or cottage. Cottages have a 12-month individual lease, which costs $525 per person per month for a 12-month lease, and $600 per person per month for a 10-month lease for both the single and the duplex styles. For all three of the

housing options, students can lease for three months, nine or ten months and a full year. All of the facilities come with wireless internet. Parking is not included in rent, but there are many spaces available close to the door of each facility. Though Campus View highly discourages pets, it is possible to bring a furry friend, for a large fee. There are a few transportation methods for students living in these off-campus housing units. Besides walking or biking, students can hop on the free CV2GV shuttle, which runs through all of Campus View from 7:24 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday. Every 10-15 minutes, the bus makes its round trip from the complex to the Kirkhof Center. Campus View includes many amenities residents are encouraged to take advantage of. Each cottage comes fully furnished with a 51” flat-screen television in the living room, a granite breakfast bar, wood-type plank flooring and a laundry facility on the second floor. The bedrooms are spacious, featuring a bathroom and walk-in closet. In addition, the community has access to quick maintenance and grounds-keeping services. The complex will soon build an outdoor sport-court and a grill/fire-pit area to add to the friendly atmosphere of the cottages. If you are interested in viewing floor plans and pricing information for all of the options, visit www.campusviewhousing.com or call (616) 896-6678. Their office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and making an appointment is not required.

16 HOUSING GUIDE

he Campus View Event Team kicks off every week asking the same question -what can we do to break up the routine and make living at Campus View more awesome? “This question that has led our community down

some pretty fun & quirky paths this year,” says Kelsey Johnson, head of the CV Event Team. “Our goal is to catch the interest of a huge number of residents by rolling out a variety of events involving different levels of time commitment. Some residents want to jump into the co-ed volleyball rec league that plays a couple of times a week and other’s are content to quickly pick up a paczki in the rec center on Fat Tuesday. Our mission is for our residents to find things to do here that allow them to build their community within the community that’s already here”. “We love making life here fun - through, by far, the most extensive range of amenities and events of any housing complex at GVSU,” says Lynn Gardner, Marketing Manager. “The CV Event Team keeps the energy of our community strong by using our facilities creatively and involving residents in activities which are free and frequently include pizza”. She adds “From smaller gatherings like Open Mic Nights, TV show premieres, and PJ breakfasts to larger events (parties that average 300-400 students) we strive to be relevant to our residents.” This year Campus View had a large contingent of the GVSU Lacrosse team living with them. The players expressed a desire to have a sports field at Campus View to hold their practices. The community responded by building a full size sport field complete with a shooting wall which is opening this Spring. Campus View residents should watch for field events using the field like ultimate frisbee, flag football, soccer and more. “There’s so much going at CV, our greatest challenge is getting the word out to everybody,” says Kelsey. “On any given night there are league games, fitness classes and a movie night or some other type of social event going on.” Next week is the first resident-sponsored craft night. A group of friends in a townhouse came up with the project idea and Campus View is buying all of the materials, food to be served and getting the word out to our residents. Check out the Campus View Facebook Page to see what they are making for their living rooms! As the weather gets nicer, residents can enjoy outdoor activities including the outdoor volleyball court and grill area or play 18 holes on the 1.3 mile disk

golf course which winds through the complex. After getting hot and tired from these activities, take a dive in the pool which is open seasonally, and hot tub which is open year-round. Next Fall, Campus View will open a new hang out area which will feature a 20-person hot tub, grill area, and an outdoor basketball court - a great place for residents to break up the daily grind of college. It’ll be located in the heart of the newly built cottage area. The Off-Kirk Community Center is the hub of social life at Campus View. Available 24/7 though the long cold winter; it’s a great place for both work and play. For work, the couches, upstairs lounge, or study rooms (free Bigby coffee daily and snacks offered during exams) are great places to grind out some work. Board games nights, craft nights and parties (holiday and Superbowl) keep away the winter blahs. For study breaks (or study delay tactics), there’s a game room (with pool tables, ping pong, foosball and air hockey), a movie theatre for screening movies (or binge watching House of Cards), and a gym where a game of pickup basketball, volleyball or dodgeball can always be found or held. For those who are interested in staying in shape, Pilates, aerobics and yoga classes are held in the dance studio throughout the week with instructor and resident Tara Meelen. At CV, there is plenty of room to go for a run, kick or throw a ball on the field, or play a round of Frisbee golf on the course. Everyone needs exercise, and if the outdoors isn’t your style, then the Off-Kirk Workout Room offers a variety of ways to get in some cardio. One thing’s for sure: it’s easy to stay active. You can get away from the grind, keep in shape, have fun, meet your neighbors and definitely Live Better at Campus View.

f you’re looking for a home away from home near campus next year, consider University Townhouses and Apartments. With locations on Fillmore and Lake Michigan Drive, the close-knit community is a few minutes

from Allendale Campus. Both locations offer seclusion and peace and quiet, something you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Units are reasonably priced with apartments ranging from $350-$400 per person per month based off a 10 or 12 month lease while townhomes fall between $250 and $400 per person per month depending on the arrangements. At the Lake Michigan Drive location, called Campustown Flats, all utilities are included with rent so you and your roommates don’t have to fight over whose turn it is to pay the bill. That’s water, sewer, trash pickup, gas, electric and heat all for the same price as rent. Curious as to what University Townhouses and Apartments has to offer? In addition to having privacy in a wooded setting at a reasonable price, the community is close to campus and has many amenities for its residents. Every unit has personal bathrooms as well as washers and dryers. Other features include free parking and hookups in each room for DSL Internet access, digital video and cable. Water, sewer and trash removal are included with

every unit. Pets at University Townhouses are limited to anything that can survive being held underwater for 10 minutes. The townhouses are located at the border of Charter and AcenTek zones, meaning either service is available to bundle cable, phone and internet. Available floor plans include two bedroom apartments or two or four bedroom townhomes. Among the townhome floor plans, some of the bedrooms are bigger than most complexes on campus but are much more affordable for cost-conscious students. While everything might seem enticing what incentive is there to secure your spot now at University Townhouses and Apartments? From now until April Fools Day new residents will get one month of free rent with a signed 12-month lease. Residents also can expect a great experience because it’s a small-knit community and should any issues arise, the owner deals with them directly, not an on-site manager. The owner wants you to feel safe, have fun and have a secure home at University Townhouses and Apartments. Visit gvtownhouses.com to view floor plans, or contact leasing manager Tim at (616)-477-5511 or by email at [email protected] with any questions.

rand Valley State University students looking for a unique living situation can check out Sun Community’s two housing locations near the Allendale campus: Allendale Meadows and Knollwood Estates.

When people think of rental housing, they think of apartments where there are shared walls and no space or houses without amenities. However, these manufactured homes in Allendale allow residents to have their personal space, both inside and outside. Walls and floors are not shared with any neighbors, and each space includes individual yards and driveways. Danielle Niewenhuis, a GVSU junior, said that although she has only been living in Allendale Meadows since August, she has enjoyed her stay immensely. “I love living in the Allendale Meadows trailer park,” Niewenhuis said. “I love the aspect of living around people who are at all different stages in life. We have some other GV students along with a few newly-wed couples and lots of parents with kids of all ages as neighbors.” She added that the reasonable rent and convenient location are important things other students should consider when looking for housing. Plus, the universal “quiet hour” starting at 10 p.m. every night gives students and others time to sleep or study in peace. The nearest bus stop for route 37 is on the corner of 48th and Lake Michigan by the Biggby and Burger King. It is just over a half mile from the entrance of the park, which isn’t too far to walk for students without cars. Room options include two, three or four bedrooms homes, with the price starting at $649 per home. Only one pet per rental is permitted, and aggressive dog breeds are not allowed in these homes. Students can take advantage of the free application process and the monthly specials. Though these vary each month, a popular one is the free month of rent. Each home comes with a washer and dryer on the inside and outside, residents will find storage sheds, basketball courts, a pool and a clubhouse that anyone can reserve for events or meetings. Or, students can use it to study when it is empty. Residents also have hassle-free parking right in their own driveway, or in the common area that has been added for overflow vehicles and guest parking. Students interested in Allendale Meadows can apply online at www.suncommunities.com/allendale-meadows/AboutUs.aspx or call Susan Bartoletti at (888) 266-4113 to schedule a tour to see them in person at 1400 Boyne Blvd. in Allendale. The Allendale Meadows office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Evening times are available by appointment. For a tour of Knollwood Estates, contact Sandra Jeltema at (888) 429-9423 or apply online at www.suncommunities.com/knollwood/AboutUs.aspx. The Knollwood office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or appointments can be made for Saturdays and evenings.

eriously though, who hasn’t done a little Facebook stalking of their own? It’s great! A social media tool that can help you get a glimpse into your roommates’ lives before you decide whether or not to live with

them. So what are you waiting for? Campus West has a limited amount of bedrooms available on an individual lease in both their 2 bedroom 1 bathroom and 4 bedroom 2 bathroom units. Contact the office for a list of everyone still in search of roommates including their names, phone numbers, and email addresses. And if you don’t feel like doing the work, Campus West can help you. If you haven’t yet, visit their office and check out their model units available during their office hours of Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm and on Saturdays from noon to 4pm. They are located directly off campus across from GVSU’s golf course. Hop on the 48 at Kirkhof and get off at the second stop once you reach the first apartment complex (their office is right there!) After speaking with one of their leasing

consultants, head right back to campus on the 37. If you’re not quite ready to head back to campus then make sure you bring a friend along and check out their study lounge, gym, and game area. And if you’re lucky there will be chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven. For more information about Campus West, visit http://www.campuswest.net/.

24 HOUSING GUIDE

hoosing the right place to live can make all the difference in your college experience. Start your search at Meadows Crossing, an apartment complex whose comfort, convenience, privacy and location outdo

its competitors. Meadows Crossing offers their residents more than just a place with a roof over it. Residents have their choice between four different living space layouts with two-bedroom or four-bedroom options starting as low as $449. Residents can choose between 12 and 10-month leases, and individual leases are available so residents are not responsible if their roommate happens to miss rent. The community is conveniently located at 10745 48th Ave. in Allendale and is in walking distance from two bus-stops. Each apartment comes fully equipped with furniture and kitchen appliances. Living areas feature a sofa, side chair, tables and entertainment stands. Separate laundry rooms include a full-size washer and dryer, and bedrooms come with a full-size bed, night stand, desk/chair and dresser. Equally important to ensuring comfort, is their goal to ensure privacy. Meadows Crossing has successfully created an environment suitable to meet the needs of both hard-working students and those who need some alone time to de-stress from school. Within each living space, residents have their own private bedroom and bathroom. In case the noise of roommates tends to seep through the walls, Meadows provides a study center with a computer lab, as well as free printing and copying, for those who need a quiet space to get homework done. When it’s time for a study break, take a walk over to The Meadows Crossing Retail Shoppes to grab a bite to eat, workout or buy some drinks. One of their latest attractions, Mully’s Bar & Grill, features nicely priced meals, delicious appetizers and an overall great atmosphere to hang out with your neighbors. Next door to Mully’s is the Hip Party Store for a quick stop for snacks. If you’d like to lounge around for a bit, check out the Grand Valley Hookah Lounge. For all the guys, if you need a quick haircut just stop by The Gentleman’s Quarters. They offer college specials for any of your barber salon needs. And the newest edition to the Meadows Crossing Retail Shoppes is the Cottage

Inn Pizza. It wouldn’t be a college hangout without a late night pizza joint! One of the most popular amenities is their 24/7 fitness facility. During the warmer months, residents can enjoy a workout outside with Meadows’ resort-style pool and spa, beach volleyball area and basketball court. However, during those harsh days of winter, residents can always enjoy Meadows’ clubhouse amenities; a state-of-the-art tanning center and recreation room with Ping-Pong and pool tables, all of which are free to residents. Speaking of free, parking is one of the main distinguishers from other apartment complexes! Every resident receives free parking once they’ve registered for a parking pass. Residents can park within feet of their front door or under established parking shelters when winter storms hit. Through their website, residents can also print off guest parking passes at any hour to ensure their guests’ cars don’t get ticketed. “No other complex offers online guest parking passes,” said Karen Bier-Hobbs, the property manager of Meadows Crossing. “It’s a 24/7 service for our residents who have guests that arrive after office hours.” Bier-Hobbs emphasized the convenience of the “online everything” shift Meadows Crossing has made in an attempt to make things such as paying for rent, filing maintenance orders and even posting classified ads, simpler for residents. Located on the corner of 48th Avenue and W. Campus Drive, this well-kept apartment community is home to those who choose location, convenience and comfort as top priorities.
